🌹💰⛔️🇨🇦 : Alberta Premier Danielle Smith says it could easily cost over $400 billion for an independent Republic of Alberta, to set up a credible government. Smith adds it will require an additional $50 billion a year to run such a government. The Premier also says Alberta would have to renegotiate all trade deals, including agreements under USMCA. Danielle warns a new Republic would likely face immediate new tariffs or higher tariffs on Alberta goods, currently under Canadian trade deals. She also warns travel and property rights inside the rest of Canada & around the world could be limited, cumbersome or rejected. Do you think the Premier's warnings are credible?

Absolutely not. People don't give a fuck about the religious right and CPC's reform roots. Dump this, focus on the economy, business and small federal government. Build a team. CPC's bench right now is full of absolute idiots. Find some non-dog-whistling candidate, competent (i.e. James Moore, Flaherty, Baird), etc. Rachel Thomas, Garret Genuis and Michael Cooper aren't going to cut it.

@JayGenXer This is the right thing to do but Carney and Ford now look like fools after a year of elbows up rhetoric. It just proves they haven't been looking out for Canadians, only for themselves.

As an Ontarian watching this… I’m actually speechless 🤦🏻‍♂️ Doug Ford is now out here saying “we can’t keep delaying” US trade talks and “we need to get to the table” ASAP ahead of the CUSMA deadline. This is the **SAME** Doug Ford who ordered **ALL** American booze pulled from LCBO shelves in 2025 — and still refuses to put it back until the US “concedes” in the trade war. The same guy whose government blew **$75 MILLION** of Ontario taxpayer dollars on big anti-tariff ads in the US (that even Mark Carney reportedly begged him to pull). But now — literally the day after Carney goes south and says a “strong Canada will help Make America Great Again” — Ford suddenly flips the script and wants urgency? This is what “leadership” looks like in Ontario? Pure political theatre. Ontario — be honest, are you buying this sudden change of heart? Drop your thoughts below 👇 #DougFord #Ontario #CUSMA #TradeWar #BoozeBan #cdnpoli #MarkCarney #Hypocrisy

@Reil76 @MarkJCarney He didn't say that during his Davos speech. He didn't say that when he claimed our relationship has ruptured. He said the days when we send 70% of our defence spending to the US is over. He said we will be part of the New World Order. What is Carney saying?

People are clipping @MarkJCarney “Canada Strong will help make America Great Again” line and pretending it’s some sort of MAGA conversion. That’s not what he was saying. The point of the speech was that a stronger Canadian economy benefits both countries. Our energy, critical minerals, manufacturing, agriculture, and integrated supply chains support millions of jobs on both sides of the border. You don’t have to agree with Carney’s policies, but context matters. The message wasn’t “Canada should become MAGA.” The message was that a prosperous Canada is good for Canada and good for the United States. That’s how trade is supposed to work: both sides win. If one side loses, it’s not a partnership. It’s a dependency.

@DwayneNHL Good analysis but on point #2, Marner is making 14 million this year in Vegas. Doesn't that eventually lead to the same cap problem as Toronto?

The Mitch Marner revisionist history is wild. But here's my assessment of why it failed in TO and why he's found success elsewhere. The standard "he’s soft / can't win" rhetoric never made logical sense. Toronto's failure wasn't a talent issue...it was a structural failure of roster construction, deployment, and asset management. Here is the truth bomb: 1. Matchups & The Kessel Parallel - In Toronto, Marner faced top-pair D and shutdown lines every night. In Vegas, he’s playing behind Eichel and Stone. Because opponents have to hard-match Eichel’s line, Marner gets 2nd-pair matchups and feeds on them. It’s the exact same reason Phil Kessel feasted in Pittsburgh after years of carrying the load in TO. 2. Flawed Cap Construction - The #Leafs were built incorrectly. Too much money up front, not enough on the blue line or in net. When a roster is that top-heavy, those elite forwards have to be superhuman to mask the depth issues. When the tight playoff whistle blows and they score like normal stars, the lack of depth exposes the whole team. 3. Coaching & Management- Matthews and Marner were never split up under Keefe or Berube. Only Babcock did it, but he did it when they were 19 and 20. If they had that structural discipline when the core was 24-25, the results likely look entirely different. Combine that with management trading away SEVEN 1st-round picks and FIVE 2nd-round picks during the Matthews/Marner era, and they completely starved the pipeline of the cheap ELC depth needed to survive a top-heavy cap. Vegas didn't need Marner to be a savior, they just needed him to be an elite piece of an already championship-caliber puzzle. It’s about usage and deployment. Vegas did it correctly. Toronto didn't. #LeafsForever #VegasBorn #NHL

It’s chaos in Yosemite National Park This is the first summer since Yosemite stopped using their reservation system There have been almost 100,000 more visitors than this time last year It’s so crowded the lines of cards are hours long and people are parking illegally in the meadows that are supposed to be protected “The line of cars goes on and on and on, all waiting to get into Yosemite National Park. People were waiting for like at least hour and a half and once you're inside, the waiting isn't over” By 7.30 am parking can already be at capacity “The entire park, it was impossible to park. There's nowhere to park for anybody. Waiting to find parking, waiting to get on the shuttle — With many getting impatient and just illegally parking wherever they could. There are people pulling onto meadows, pulling off pavement, going off-road” “Environmental Resource Center says it was at least better than this. Without any limits the amount of vehicles, amount of people, it becomes overwhelmed. He believes the decision was good for business, not for the environment” You can’t even take the shuttles they’re so packed, I found: Shuttles are overwhelmed, trails including Half Dome cables are jammed, and congestion is constant. Park staff and environmental groups say it’s harming sensitive meadows and wildlife habitat There is no daily cap on vehicles during peak summer hours Many park employees, over 300 signed a petition, environmental groups, and former staff criticize the decision as prioritizing crowds over visitor experience Go back to a strict reservation system. There are way too many people

"Its" wealth? Among the most absurd assumptions in this whole surreal debate is the idea that Alberta, in the vanishingly unlikely event that it was ever permitted to detach itself from Canada, would depart with its entire current territory — including the parts with the oil. There is zero possibility of this, and even less legitimacy to it. The provinces control natural resources under the constitution of Canada — but under the constitution of Canada, and as provinces of Canada. The minute they cease to be under the constitution, they cease to enjoy any of its guarantees. Conrad Black: Canada better hope Alberta doesn't leave with its wealth | National Post nationalpost.com/opinion/canada…
