This has intensified my thinking - we need to plan for tornadoes as part of a hurricane planning strategy as well. Future shelters I would build for 200 mph winds AND use during non-tropical tornado events, even in Florida. I hope to start a study on it all.

As a meteorologist, I’m in a very difficult boat. If I put out good, quality information, it’s dwarfed in engagement by spam, clickbait and foolish hype/conspiracies. But if I spent my time correcting misinformation, I’d have no time ever. What can one realistically do?

The next Hurricane Hunter aircraft, NOAA 42 (Kermit), is preparing to head out to investigate #Milton. We may get some incredible data, but we also have to pray for the crew onboard, as they will be taking one of the roughest rides of their careers.

8:05 AM CDT Monday Update: Milton rapidly intensifies into a category 4 hurricane. The maximum sustained winds have now increased to 150 mph (240 km/h) and the minimum pressure has fallen to 940 mb.
