@jzipple @BriannaWu 1. Brianna, unfortunately Jesuits can be purposefully misleading on these topics. It’s how they’re trained! Pope Francis approved the Church’s official teaching on sex change in a 2024 document, “Dignitas Infinita.” Para 60 says: “any sex-change intervention, as a rule… (cont)

I don’t think it’s clear the Church teaches homosexual orientation is “intrinsically disordered”. That phrase was absent in the original ‘92 French text of the CCC, only appearing in the ‘97 revision. And the ‘97 CCC only cites one source for the claim: a low level 1975 CDF doc
Father Joseph DeMarzo@Joseph_DeMarzo

But if you agree that the Church teaches that homosexual tendencies are intrinsically disordered, why append the very description of the orientation, which one is called not to act upon, in front of one’s name, title, office, and so forth? Imagine if I said, “I know many heterosexual priests who live holy lives of celibacy and compassion.” Is it not sufficient simply to say that I know priests who struggled with X, Y, or Z? “I know gay priests who struggled…” versus “I know priests who struggled…” is a very different statement because one assumes an assimilation of the thing struggled with as a positive aspect of human identity, while the other simply states the truth of who I am, which is not reduced to the thing struggled with. It seems that there is a push to accept homosexuality as an authentic expression of what it means to be human or Catholic. Who belongs to God? Every sinner who repents and turns to Jesus Christ for mercy, including myself. I think we do a grave disservice to souls by using such language and explanations because they communicate the idea that one can live a disordered lifestyle and be a Catholic in good standing. Stating that one lives out celibacy is not sufficient if, at the same time, one maintains the title of the very thing he is apparently actively choosing not to act upon because he understands it to be not morally good. Unless there are those who are arguing that it is something good and compatible with inheriting eternal life? To all people, men and women who struggle with same-sex attraction, God loves you. I can only repeat the words of the Church’s first Holy Father: “Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”

@JHaddad01 The BCSC and Crittenden are Catholic men's houses with several CUA grad student residents. I believe Crittenden is now a women's house, but the BCSC is still going.

@cmn_jcs Really now? I'm horrible with acronyms... what does BCSC stand for? And Crittenden sounds really familiar, but I can't remember from what. Can you help a brother out?

@DixiePapist @pegobry_en @Vermeullarmine That claim ("total crickets") is clearly false; this is the first result when searching his feed for "Biden": x.com/CatholicPods/s…
Thomas Mirus@CatholicPods

@agostino_harry I'm basing it on that formal meaning. Biden was an obstinate formal heretic and continued to do things contrary to express Church teaching after being corrected. Vance has not, as far as we know, yet been corrected on his statements about the pill and IVF

@pegobry_en @Vermeullarmine Meanwhile, total crickets when applesauce for brains went against so many basic Catholic doctrines while he was Senator, VP, and President, that even a moderate Bishop in SC had priests deny him communion when he was campaigning there. Nothing about Nancy or AOC either.

@CatholicPods @MeganTu15811522 People already showed you that you are placing a heavier burden then many saints including saints who prayed multiple rosaries every single day. Perhaps prayerfully considered why you are attacking the first truly Catholic VP and what about him makes you so angry.

Vance told Bishop Barron that for his prayer life, he tries to say a decade of the Rosary in the morning and then another before bed. That's scary to me. Don't get me wrong, any prayer is good, and I can't judge his soul, but just objectively, you need more than 2 decades of the Rosary a day to even be a good Catholic janitor, hours more than that to be a truly Godlike father, to avoid regularly falling into mortal sin, let alone to be a good Catholic Vice President of the most powerful country in the world. Let no one say "I don't have enough time" - the wisdom of the saints is that the busier you are, the more pressure you are under, the more time you need to make for prayer. We all make this excuse and we are almost always wrong. The ones who became saints are the ones who didn't give themselves permission to keep an 8-year-old's prayer life (but without the innocence and simplicity). Imagine the blessing it would be for the country of JD Vance had a serious prayer life. I'm going to pray that he sees the need for it and commits to it. It's not about judgment. It's about how much we need God.

@emuse1955 I want him to say more. Am I going to react to that news by "he's a bad Catholic, and to be a good catholic, you gotta say at least this many decades?" No, because the Church doesn't.

@PrincepsStultus Where was the claim made about the amount grace received? I didn't see it, just pointing out that "2 decades of a the rosary" should be a starting point, especially for one in such a significant role. Where do you see the claim about grace received?

Is he actually correct wrt to Vance or is he just a guy with a podcast passing himself off as a spiritual master? We have no idea really as to the grace Vance receives every day from his prayer. And it’s certainly not our place to sit in judgment and then “who me?!” when people rightly condemn the statement.
