All-time US peak power load is effectively tied btwn 2023 and 2022 at just above 740GW in late July, up 5% from 2015-2021 avg - and exceeding winter peak record by ~100GW set during Winter Storm Elliott.

What's the difference between "possible" and "plausible"? Does "plausible" mean "reasonably possible" while "possible" means "could have happened, even if it's really unlikely"?

@GuyDealership This will be true for any durable good. Nobody asks why Realtors sell “used” homes, or why there are shops to refurbish and resell iPhones.

Someone asked me a super valid question. “Why do used car dealers exist?” Here’s how I responded: Because most consumers don’t want to… — Recondition used vehicles — Bear the potential risk of unknown repairs — Arrange financing on their own (primarily subprime folks) — Source and vet the right warranty and insurance policies This is why cutting-out used car dealers hasn’t happened yet. Do you disagree?

The harm is not only on workers who produce such clothes but garment workers around the world, as now consumers wonder why shirts have to cost more than $5. You can't have an ethically made cut-and-sew shirt for $5. People here arguing otherwise are just muddying the waters.

Hard to have a convo with ppl who act in bad faith 1. I've written about labor abuses in the US, including LA's garment district. I am also planning to write more about this later this year when @GarmentWorkerLA puts a bill in front of US Congress. 🧵 putthison.com/the-hidden-wor…

@MassDara What would one watch for to see “out of view” elements of the Belarus Agreement, e.g. disappearance of key Russian military leadership?

A thread about the Russian military and what to watch for in the days ahead. Developments are highly contingent, but there are a few big movements to look out for. /1

@TimSweeneyEpic @jinzohulai I agree that "little risked is little gained!" But individual human lives are finite. It follows any individual's potential accomplishment is too. Carpe diem.

@jinzohulai @cnickens What's the long term value of everything that a person could accomplish? I think infinite, because at some point it will come down to a choice between extinction and spreading life across the universe, and will likely be determined by acts of a few people.

There are two types of risks in business. Everyone focuses on the risk of losing what they've built, because it's so apparent. But there's an even bigger risk: the risk of not building what you're capable of building. This risk is unquantifiable, easy to ignore, and infinite.

@nickkokonas Ok m, looked it up. :) Nine spins get you to about half the world’s GDP if I’m tracking decimals appropriately. So you can make a red or black bet after that and you’d be there.

@profmusgrave There are probably more direct routes than this: a lot of the democratic peace theory relies on voter power/influence. (And where dem. peace theory misses is when voter opinion changes - then leader opinion tends to follow.)

OK political science twitter. I need a citation for the following claim: "In a democracy, it's important that government policies be consistent with public opinion on a given issue."

Despite what you may have heard, zero drinks is better than a few (even red wine) and the threshold beyond which health issues start to surface is 2 drinks per week. All that and more about alcohol and your health here: hubermanlab.com/what-alcohol-d…
