Tariff Objectives: • Reduce dependence on China • Encourage production at home • Shift supply chains to safer partners If those are the goals, the early results look less “mixed” — and more like expected short-term adjustment while longer-term gains begin to form. ⸻ 1. A Major Shift Away From China • China share of U.S. imports fell to ~7–9% • Down from ~21–22% in 2017–2018 • Roughly a 60% reduction in dependence • U.S.–China goods deficit fell $93.4 billion • Lowest in over 20 years Why this matters: • Less reliance on a geopolitical rival • More resilient supply chains • Reduced risk during crises • Greater U.S. bargaining leverage Even when production shifted to Vietnam or Mexico, that still reduced concentration risk — one of the core goals. ⸻ 2. Investment Appears to Be Following • Record reshoring + foreign investment announcements • 88% of 2024 announced jobs in high-tech industries • 90% in early 2025 — highest on record • Manufacturing construction near record highs • Projects already breaking ground Factories are not press releases. Once built, they tend to stay. Examples: • Stellantis: $13B U.S. expansion (~5,000 jobs) • Whirlpool: $300M Ohio investment (up to 600 jobs) These are long-term capital commitments — the kind that signal structural change. ⸻ 3. Early Signs of Domestic Production Shifts • Tariff-exposed industries +2.1% through early 2026 • +1.3% YoY (Feb 2026) • Long-run estimates: ~2.7% manufacturing expansion Protected sectors improving first is exactly what you’d expect early in a reshoring cycle. ⸻ Short-Term Adjustment Is Expected When someone stops drinking after years of dependence, the early symptoms can feel worse. But those symptoms are often part of recovery. Going back might ease discomfort — but undo long-term progress. Reducing dependence on foreign production can work the same way: short-term disruption, long-term resilience. ⸻ A Smarter Path Forward Tariffs don’t have to be all-or-nothing: • Refundable tariffs on steel (refunded if re-exported) • Pro-investment tax policy to offset input costs • Incentives to produce more at home while preserving trade ⸻ If these were the goals, the early results suggest: • Dependence on China falling sharply • Record reshoring in high-tech industries • Real capital investment underway • Early signs of domestic production shifting That looks less like “mixed results” — and more like short-term adjustment while long-term gains begin to emerge.

You would think Obama would say something about Iran. It was ostensibly supposed to be his chief foreign policy legacy. That he only wades in on divisive social issues would seem to vindicate the most cynical reads on his (especially later) presidency

NEW: President Trump makes four false claims in a 43-word post about Tina Peters. Peters is 70 (not 73), does not have cancer, was sentenced by a judge in Mesa County (not the Governor), and did not expose fraud in the 2020 presidential election.

It's the first Thursday of the NCAA Tournament, and I can't help but think of my mom. It was on this day every year I would wake up "not feeling good," and she would play along and call my school to let them know I wouldn't be able to make it. Love you, mom.

@CFBHome @nate_robinson He also has the state high school record in the 110 meter hurdles at 13.85. Which is really freaking fast. Like division one fast.

Nate Robinson Washington Husky 🟣🟡 - Nate played all 13 games his Freshman year. - In 2002 he had two Interceptions and 34 Tackles. - Had a very important interception in the 2002 Apple Cup🍎 - Decided to focus on basketball but definitely would have gotten a shot in the NFL

@bballbreakdown @KevinOConnor You asked what I think he should have done. I answered. Then you ask me why I get to dictate when a player does something? Cool. Is this just engagement strategy?

@coachktemp @KevinOConnor why do you think you get to dictate when a player decides to pull up into a jump shot? Can you see how suboptimal that idea is? "I'm sorry, man, but you have to waste time with a basic jump stop so the defense can get back into position before you're allowed to shoot."

lmao - last few weeks? And how is the point anything other than people are ignoring egregious contact by defenders who do the one thing everyone in 5th grade was taught not to do? It doesn't make much sense to adopt some sort of mindset that "If I'm not skilled enough to pull up off the dribble like that, NO ONE should be allowed to." Or worse: "We must somehow change the rules that limit when a player can decide to shoot the ball because the defender might hit him across the arms when he's not ready."

There’s an interesting case study to be had about nothing in sports feeling legendary anymore. I don’t think it’s a nostalgia thing at all, I think it’s the rise of social media and accessibility so we move on from everything immediately.

Multiple sources said it was WWE's doing. 1 source denied it but when asked why they pulled the grades had no answer. It's not a company wide thing or writer specific. The same ESPN writer has, and continues to, use lettergrades for UFC. They used them even when UFC aired on ESPN
Chad Songer@ChadSonger1

@TrevorDame The rest of the story which was omitted here was ESPN denied WWE had any influence and it was their decision, which makes sense given the money they paid. It’s like a restaurant giving itself a bad grade to its potential paying customers
