@MisterCommodity Why is valuemeasured in £s. 1.5% of our population attend a professional football game every weekend. In the USA it’s only 0.3%. Your sport is just about entertainment & making money, football in the rest of the world is about passion. Up to individuals on what they prefer.

This is why 8 of the 10 most valuable sports franchises in the world exist in the U.S. even though the fan base for soccer is 5x the size. The proposal is clumsy at best, and if that were the reason it was being killed that'd be enough. But the prevailing attitude here seems to be "soccer is not for sale" - even though UEFA makes over $2b on the Euro cup. The statement from UEFA comes off as if they are almost offended that someone wants to inject more money into the game from concessions and marketing agreements while leaving the governing up to the federations.

@HLTCO Those franchises have captive audiences, there are only 32 NFL teams in the USA, there are half that many professional football clubs in London alone. If Palace had a captive fan base of 30m people they’d be more valuable than any American “franchise “.

One new rule of football I propose is; the two linesmen should have vanishing foam spray- they should mark the exact spots the ball goes out of play, so the impending throw-ins are taken right there.

@LfcShaunjudge His bias and the comments he makes mirror some of the faceless accounts on X that talk crap about the teams they don’t support to get likes. Like this one.

@PervyPepper That's a song we sang/sung at Reading. He even turned up for a game once and walked around the pitch. He had no idea what he was there for!

@refsupportuk Not a dive. Ref didn’t spot the keeper winning the ball, that’s it a mistake, nothing more. Any decent ref would see that in the replay.

The problem with asking the average fan Their opinions about the laws of the game is that they haven't got a clue so their baseline is incredibly skewed from the off. For example, they think that VAR hasn't improved decision-making accuracy when it clearly has.
Henry Winter@henrywinter

Premier League fans deliver damning verdict on VAR. 75% of 7,946 fans polled by the Football Supporters’ Association “didn’t support the use of VAR”. Too long, too forensic, too much of a joy killer, fans say. Findings shared with Premier League and PGMO. 92% of fans surveyed “agreed” that “VAR has removed the spontaneous joy of goal celebrations” (82% of them “strongly agreed”). 85% of match-going fans “strongly disagreed” with the notion that “VAR makes watching football more enjoyable”. And 83% of those watching on TV. 85% of match-going fans “strongly disagreed” that “VAR decisions are generally resolved in a reasonable amount of time”. Echoed by 83% of those watching on TV. Only 18% agreed that “VAR has improved the overall accuracy of refereeing decisions”. 72% are “concerned about the expansion of VAR beyond its current remit”. 79% “strongly disagreed” with the suggestion “that the match-going experience is better with VAR”. 67% “strongly agreed” that they preferred “watching games that are played without VAR to games with VAR”. 84% “strongly support” goal-line technology. 34% “strongly opposed” to the idea of a challenge system (two per game per team). “These findings back up the FSA's previous survey in 2021, where fans expressed misgivings about the introduction of VAR,” says Thomas Concannon, @WeAreTheFSAPremier League network manager. “The vast majority are reporting the same concerns five years on - the loss of spontaneity when celebrating goals, and an overall worsening of the match-going experience. We have shared the survey results with the Premier League and PGMO, and look forward to discussing its findings with them.” Fans surveyed of all PL clubs and all ages (Under-18 to 65+).

6 games to go, Reading are on 61 points. Games at home vs Lincoln, Cardiff and Blackpool. Away to Huddersfield, Doncaster & Rotherham. How many points needed for top 6, how many will we get? I’m saying we need 13/18 to sneak it perhaps even on GD, & we’ll get 13 exactly.

@refsupportuk I include you in that “football fans” group. You support refs at all times until Klopp is in the spotlight and then Klopp’s actions can be excused as the ref’s body language was poor. It’s amazing how subjective we are until fan emotions come out in us.

It’s clear after this weekend that Football fans [not that we need anymore evidence] are the most entitled fans in any sport ever. Never accepting match officials mistakes but every mistake made by players are classed as “what if” or “he was unlucky there” …incredible when you think about it. 🤷‍♂️

@ReadingFC Boring , slow football. Take forever getting the ball back into play from all free kicks, throw-ins etc so come 90 minutes when the opposition need a goal they’re full of energy as they haven’t been worked during the 90 minutes.
