How are companies optimizing for AI fan-out queries? Some marketers do a variation of this process: 1) Use a keyword you already rank for 2) Find common fan-out queries 3) Determine the most important fan-out topics 4) Optimize your page—or create new pages—for the fan-out queries 5) Measure the results I couldn’t find a great step-by-step guide on how to optimize this process, so I wrote one...

LinkedIn article traffic reversed after skyrocketing earlier this year. The likely culprit: a huge amount of AI use on the platform. Pangram recently cited that 41% of content there (!) is AI generated: pangram.com/blog/ai-in-you… Seeing them less and less in AI citations.

LinkedIn posts are seeing a surge in SEO traffic. This is a trend to watch closely. It feels like it could be the start of a Reddit, Quora-type social acceleration trend -- and a reason to invest in organic social.

@CyrusShepard I don't doubt tracking at scale might provide direction - but little else. But it needs to be at scale, and very much taken with a pinch of salt. But I can apply the same "I just work here" and let the industry make even more of a joke of itself, claiming to do things it can't🤷

Confident you rank in Google AI answers + citations? These vary SO much, even for the exact same query. Below: • Logged in • Incognito, USA • Incognito, Brazil • Incognito, Ukraine Completely different results based on personalization, location, language, and LLM fuzziness

@PeterMindenhall My personal opinion: I do think there's value in tracking, at least at scale. Is it oversold? Also yes. I just work here.

@CyrusShepard So still no change since the |AI crap started rolling out - yet here we are with grifters galore doing "tracking" and charging money for it. Worth noting many of these grifter companies are listed on stock exchanges, or are of a size that could be.

@Pushpensr All good questions. I do believe that *directionally* there is benefit, that across multiple prompts you see patterns of visibility, certainly.

@CyrusShepard So what does this mean? We are trying to rank our pages in AI answers, and if it is ranking in India, then it's not ranking in the USA. If it is all personalization, then why are companies so eager to rank there? Is there any worth to it?

@CyrusShepard Google really needs to a lot better and fast. There isn’t much incentive to publish something, only to have it badly mangled. We made this video with @ahrefs to show the scale of the problem that mirrors the reality most creators and publishers are facing.

We were honored to work with @samsgoh and @ahrefs on this video. It's a great visualization of the immense damage to trust AI recipes cause. This is happening to all verticals in some form. We demonstrate the problem by cooking another AI recipe. (1/2)🧵 youtube.com/watch?v=J0lLvV…

Wow. More major web publishers are preparing for the nuclear option of opting out of Google search. There's little incentive for them to remain
Glenn Gabe@glenngabe

It's a network of sites, and not just usatoday.com, but checking the visibility of that site over the past two years makes me think they have bigger problems with Google than just AI -> USA Today CEO Mike Reed says the company is prepared to opt out of Google Search in the next 6 to 12 months because it has no licensing agreement with Google adweek.com/media/publishe…

Googling yourself to see your rank in Google AI answers is next to worthless You need averages The only sources of truth are likely AI visibility reports (Bing, Google) and/or third-party trackers that can monitor keywords at scale (e.g., Ahrefs) I don't make the rules ¯\_(ツ

Would you humor me and do a search for "SEO Jobs". I regularly see @seojobscom ~#3 under indeed/zip. However, on the last call I was on, this person mentioned regularly seeing the site #1. We all know it's personalization/geo, but I'm curious if you could. Google search "SEO Jobs" Share your location share ranking position

@glenngabe Agreed! My comment was more regarding on the reporting of the article, and the general sentiment in the industry around declining incentives, e.g. definemg.com/publishers-of-… Regardless, I appreciate you highlighting this

@CyrusShepard When you drop heavily during multiple major updates, that doesn't mean there's no incentive... They might have serious issues from a quality pov on their end (which is more than just content).

@jonathanwthomas Same. For news publishers, I suspect it could be different as ROI of feeding AI answers with free content isn't a business model they want to encourage
