“In the Los Angeles area, for example, the average exit tax for homeowners 65 and older is $185,000, while the annual cost of insurance, maintenance and property taxes on a zombie home is only about $10,000, the data showed..” nytimes.com/2026/04/30/rea…

Narrative violation and great insight from the latest Citadel Securities banger by Frank Flight: "We illustrated back in February that demand for software engineers, the most AI exposed occupation was accelerating higher, which we argued violates the displacement narrative. Indeed the acceleration in software job postings has continued, now up 18% from the inflection point in May last year."

Don't join a company or industry that has contempt for its customers. You can make a lot of money that way, and of course it gives you a feeling of superiority, but you'll never do great work for a market you despise.

During YC W24, I thought it was the best time to build in AI. I was wrong. The best time is now. Before, even simple landing pages took a month. There were no great design tools. Now, tools can do far more, much faster. It took us 15 months to reach $1M, But our users doubled every 6 months now. If you start today, it will likely be much more cost-efficient.

A non-profit I'm involved with is looking for an ongoing donor to fund workshops at NYC public schools. They focus on siblings of children with special needs. Right now, the school system pays but it cannot expand the programs to more kids given their budget. If you want to support NYC public schools and/or the NYC special needs community, message me! (I was also surprised how little this program takes to run each year given its impact!)

I want to use something like Loom (or maybe frame io is the comp) to share the generative dashboards I create with Claude/etc I'd be looking for features like easy SSO, sharing settings, view analytics, maybe commenting. Has anyone seen something like this?

One thing I see in my neighborhood in LA with Prop 13 is that there are at least 8 houses in a 2 block radius that have been empty for 5+ years. People who owned them have passed and it's so cheap for their kids just to leave it sitting. Bad for the neighborhood and city

@rsgalloway @JoeFernandez Put differently, gross tax legislation is a different discussion than whether certain homeowners should arbitrarily pay less than others.

Gross tax intake is still huge overall but the new buyers pay it all instead of everyone equally based on their property values. It pits people against one another and skews individual incentives toward the worst possible outcomes for society in favor of a few. Maybe fine amongst the wealthy but it’s particularly insidious to the middle class where it basically pits the old vs the young.
