In his press conference, Trumps focus on Venezuelan oil and not Venezuelan democracy was striking … and disappointing.

@MarkHalperin This kind of argument is really beguiling. You could call it a recursive appeal to authority. It establishes a state of ignorance. Then it introduces a corrective, followed by a new judgment, which is qualified as NOT being the state of ignorance and therefore true. Fascinating!

An email I just got from a very smart person, who is now smarter, unfortunately because of the assassination of Charlie Kirk: “I used to think of Trump Derangement Syndrome as just people losing their minds about him specifically and knee jerk hating everything he said or did or enacted. But I now realize that Trump Derangement Syndrome has made people lose their ability to tell the difference between right and wrong.”

What’s fascinating watching some of the TikToks of the Charlie Kirk assassination is the degree to which people who were *actually there and saw him die* experienced it fundamentally as social media content.

@TheFP @karakclairmont @grok What relationship does this statement have with cultural marxist analysis? “The body positivity movement… wasn’t really about celebrating women. It was about neutralizing beauty,”

Really, @columbiasport - you don’t even have the @columbia Twitter handle. Did you actually think anyone would mistake shoddy outdoor wear for a fine university?

Suppose you took 10,000 optimally selected people and dumped them into a region that had adequate forests, fields, and mountains for mining iron and coal, all in a 100 mile radius They start with only 1 season of food supplies How fast could they bootstrap to tech circa 1900?

@naval @elonmusk How is DJT practical? He seems erratic, given to shifting and radical tactics, and lacking any strategy. He just loves tariffs and wants to hurt anyone or any institution that has *wronged* him. In this case, @elonmusk seems far more practical AND principled.

Elon’s stance is principled. Trump’s stance is practical. Tech needs Republicans for the present. Republicans need Tech for the future. Drop the tax cuts, cut some pork, get the bill through.

@JamesSurowiecki How much of the lack of interest in biden’s accomplishments had to do with the fact that no one stepped out in front of the investments the government was making in the economy? green tech in red states, for example.

BREAKING: The great @RichardGrenell did something amazing last night: He quickly and quietly assembled a MAGA outpost here in the middle of globalist heaven, and put together maybe the best gathering so far at @MilkenInstitute. It was intimate and fascinating and well attended by CEOs and political types. @SecScottBessent gave a short reassuring speech on tariffs, which went over well. Grenell's gathering might be the only one here for the MAGA crowd and highlighting its agenda particularly on trade, which is a shame since the topic of every conversation is Trump and of course the economy. Smart move by Ric

The stock market and Main Street often diverge. Public freight companies, small businesses, port operators, and supply chain management professionals all agree - the goods economy is headed off the rails. But most people on Wall Street are so disconnected from the reality of how the goods economy works that they assume that everything in economics is reflected in stocks. What they fail to understand is that stock price indicies are often a function of global liquidity and not fundamentals.

@DougHenwood This is amazing stuff. It’s completely misguided, but it does contain a vision for America that entails sacrifice and unity for a better future. That’s a powerful combination, dangerously directed
