@MarkHalperin This kind of argument is really beguiling. You could call it a recursive appeal to authority. It establishes a state of ignorance. Then it introduces a corrective, followed by a new judgment, which is qualified as NOT being the state of ignorance and therefore true. Fascinating!

But most people on Wall Street are so disconnected from the reality of how the goods economy works that they assume that everything in economics is reflected in stocks. What they fail to understand is that stock price indicies are often a function of global liquidity and not fundamentals.

If you look at a chart of say $CHRW (almost no rebound from the lows), it’s clear that the market is paying attention to the tariffs and its direct impact. But investors don’t seem concerned about major spillovers, maybe on expectations of further relaxations.
