@joshtpm NAEP results correlates most strongly with the income and social/educational status of kids' families. That's why for 30 years NAEP has shown that nearly 2/3 of kids at all levels are "below proficient." We're lucky the pandemic decline wasn't worse. School closures=red herring.

2/ The results show little correlation if any between test results and duration of school closures. The results are just out. And perhaps deeper analysis will show them. But at least on initial review they’re not there either on a state or school district basis.

Lot of write ups of new text results today, the first that gives apples to apples comparison nationwide. They show steep drops in reading and especially math over the pandemic. But most write ups - I’m looking especially at you Axios - leave one point mostly unmentioned.

@joshtpm The NAEP declines simply tell the general public what testing data analysis has shown for two years - that pandemic disruption caused significant learning loss, especially for the most at risk kids. Schools that restarted earlier still had significant disruption.

@joshtpm I have never had Covid. I have been very careful, have immediate family members with greater vulnerability. I am double vaxxed and twice boosted. I have always used a mask indoors and avoided indoor dining and other activities.
