Deeply disturbed by @GovKathyHochul’s recent remarks and the underlying perception that she has of Black & brown children from the BX. Our children are bright, brilliant, extremely capable, and more than deserving of any opportunities that are extended to other kids. Do better.

@KarinesReyes87 @GovKathyHochul While I am also disturbed by @GovKathyHochul remarks, the REAL question is, “WHY?” WHY did she feel like we don’t know what the word computer is? WHY single us out, when the Bronx is 1 of 5 boros in NYC? And WHY has nobody addressed this inequity for over 20 yrs? 🤷🏾‍♂️

I am deeply uninterested in opinions about teaching or schools if those opinions are coming from someone who is not a teacher in a school.

@NYCMayor @DOEChancellor if you are going to run with “children can’t learn if they’re hungry” and then take away the foods they actually want to eat, what do you expect the outcomes to be when they’re hungry?
Michael Elsen-Rooney@MichaelElsenRoo

NYC's school menu cuts already having far-reaching effects: One Bronx student didn't eat the whole day bc the chicken tenders + fries she usually gets are gone. And the chicken dumplings manufacturer may have to cut jobs + likely won't work w/ NYC again: chalkbeat.org/newyork/2024/0…

New "chief" at Tweed: Amid Mayor Adams' budget cuts to schools, Chancellor David Banks' deputy chancellor of leadership, Danika Rux, has named a "chief of school leadership development." Danielle Giunta, District 26 superintendent, is promoted to the newly created position. Giunta joins three "chiefs of school support" who each make $222,972 a year. nypost.com/2023/12/09/met…

Department of Education is seeing its budget slashed by more than $500M with cuts to pre-K program & Summer school scaling back its middle school component dramatically. That will impact some 30,000 kids, officials added. nydailynews.com/2023/11/16/pro…

Today, due to Mayor’s latest draconian budget cuts - schools are forced to cut $1B midyear & thousands 3K & pre-k spots are gone. Libraries end Sunday hours next month. Parks, CUNY, housing - all cut. Revenue is up, reserves are steady, & Mayor keeps making deeply harmful cuts.

🚨from the PC: Budget Cuts Will Worsen City’s Affordability Crisis, Delay Economic Recovery & Harm New Yorkers “As more New Yorkers struggle to afford skyrocketing rents, childcare & healthcare, @nycmayor is recklessly slashing the City programs New Yorkers rely on most.”

Volunteer? Wait. What? So cut our schools to the point of dysfunction & then ask us to VOLUNTEER to fill the gaps? And tell me, how are poor people with very little resources or time because they are working multiple jobs just to survive in this outrageously expensive city supposed to do that?
leonie haimson@leoniehaimson

Mayor says big budget cuts to be announced on Thursday & he will be calling on parents to volunteer to help fill the gaps in school services.

I've got a message to anyone coming after our libraries: if you ban it, we'll still read. Books can and will change a child's life for the better. This #BannedBooksWeek and every week we stand proudly against anyone trying to force censorship or whitewash history.

Like pre-COVID when a teacher might see 3 of their 15 scheduled conferences show up, and then with remote conferences see 13/15 show up…this is a straight-up attack on those 10 parents in the gap.

@didactickatydid absolutely! plus if they wanna meet in person so badly, they can schedule an appt to come into the building during the school year at any point. virtual conferences are a game changer for my families not working the typical 9-5 and who speak other languages

“They shouldn’t have taken on student loans!” Do people realize that this sentence effectively means they believe people from working class backgrounds shouldn’t have attended college? It’s classism.
