Councils exist to deliver local services - bins, roads, planning and social care - not to grandstand on foreign policy. Tomorrow, vote Conservative for councillors who’ll get the basics right.

@KemiBadenoch @Conservatives The Conservatives are the only party with a confident, forward-looking plan. Lower council tax, cutting business tax, delivering safer streets and better services. Not the lies of Labour and Reform. Kemi's bringing honest politics back. #VoteConservative

@des_ward @turnbjames @implausibleblog Why wait? You get financial savings from day one, especially if you get a battery at the same time, which you can charge in the cheap overnight window. Or if you use the Agile or Cozy tariffs.

Gent in yellow, "I'm an engineer, a scientist by background, and what I really care about is energy" "And that's one of these things which I feel has been turned into a culture war" "So let me say one thing" "We know that heat pumps, insulation, EVs, etc can save half your energy usage" "It's a massive difference" "And Iran, while, and this is not just about climate change, we can use as a strategic reserve" "We can use that oil for aviation or AI data centres" "But we've got politicians here on the table today, I believe, who deny these facts" "And why should we platform you when we can save that money? The energy. The money" "And this also means that we're not paying the oil money to Russia, which uses it to strike Ukraine every day, and we pay again for defence missiles" "So it's a very serious question. And this is the science, this is the fact. You cannot say that that does not save half the energy."

It is hard to believe that Labour is even considering paying £1bn a year to the EU. Has everyone forgotten that we buy more from them than they do from us, and have done ever since we joined the Common Market? If anything, they should be paying us! (Actually they shouldn’t. Free trade should be just that, free)And our exports to them post Covid are broadly on trend for pre-Brexit levels. The restraints on growth are down to appalling tax and regulatory policies, as well as some global headwinds. thetimes.com/uk/politics/ar…

🚨 TRUMP JUST TOLD EUROPE TO PAY UP OR STEP UP Reporter asks why we’re pulling troops from Germany. Trump: “We’re going to cut way down… and we’re cutting a lot further than 5,000.” About damn time. Europe has been freeloading off American taxpayers for 80 years while they fund their socialist utopias and lecture us on “democracy.” No more blank checks. No more forever occupations.

Natural England is out of control. Nuclear is the most land dense clean energy using up to 3000 times LESS land than solar and wind. Nuclear is much better for habitats and the environment and yet our environment regs are blocking our ability to build it. Madness.
Sam Dumitriu@Sam_Dumitriu

Natural England have decided that £700m spent protecting fish isn’t enough. They want EDF to do even more before they’ll let them switch the plant on. This will cause a big delay. Put simply, Natural England is a threat to our energy security. telegraph.co.uk/business/2026/…

@turnbjames @implausibleblog Heat pumps are 4 x efficient than gas boilers. Even if using gas generated electricity it will therefore exceed the save half as much energy surely? For clarity, I have an EV but not a heat pump, as am waiting for the combi to go past its useful life

His statement is a bit broad. The heatpumps and insulation may save energy usage, but probably not by half. EVs use electrical energy but do they save energy compared to conventional cars? It’s nuanced - depends over what period and the source of the energy supply that is “fuelling the cars. In any event, we are not magically going to transition to EVA overnight. and, if we did, we wouldn’t have the resources to charge them all. I love the way th entire audience is entranced because he states immediately that he’s an engineer. And scientist by background. Ok then, game over!

@Timmyray16 @turnbjames @implausibleblog For EVs? Of course we do, unless you are saying that every EV owner would charger during the working day (which is nonsense). The fact is that the grid has to have enough capacity to cater for every house and business to be drawing energy between 1600-1800

@SecScottBessent Feck me, you realyl are dense - the US is acting like a pirate, after they launched a war to deflect from domestic issues. You’ll end up pissing the gulf states off, increasing the threat of terrorism - also ensuring that oil ceases to be linked to the dollar 🙈

It is very difficult for rats in a sewer pipe to know what’s going on in the outside world. Some color for the Iranian Leadership as they literally sit in the dark: 1. The United States has complete control of the Strait of Hormuz. 2. There is a hard currency, i.e. U.S. dollar, shortage. 3. Food and gasoline rationing are in place. 4. The entire international community has turned against you. 5. The BLOCKADE will continue, until there is pre-February 27 Freedom of Navigation.

The list is long, but surrendering the Chagos Islands was one of the worst decisions Starmer made as PM. Defence spending has to rise. So today I’m announcing that we would spend that money on building British frigates faster. That’s how we build a Stronger Country.
Conservatives@Conservatives

Scrap the Chagos Islands Surrender. Use that money to boost the delivery of Royal Navy frigates. That’s what the Conservatives would do. Vote Conservative on 7 May 🇬🇧

@gasgasbones @GOPIsrael They provided commercial goods (sidewinders etc) which we purchased to help with the campaign - but they weren’t fighting on our side. I’m happy to admit that the sidewinders (from memory) were newer ones which the US didn’t give to anyone else at the time

Argentina is sending naval units to assist the U.S. in safeguarding international shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. The UK has refused. In 1982 President Reagan came to the aid of then PM Margaret Thatcher who was defending the UK colony in the Falkland Islands, claimed by Argentina which refers to them as the Malvinas Islands. In light of the UK’s cowardly refusal to support the US in the Persian Gulf conflict, I think it only appropriate for the Trump Administration to consider reversing US policy on the Falklands and support the Argentinian claim.
