Daniel got important clarifications from NVIDIA. TLDR: the "DLSS5 skeptical" were right about *everything*.
1⃣ It's a 2D AI Filter. Input is only color buffer & motion vectors. The model doesn't see geometry, lights, PBR properties, normals, anything🧵

@DeryaBar11@opinali They said they're using two 5090s to do this lol. One to run the game and one to run the generative AI layer.
Yet they somehow expect to run this on one consumer grade GPU by EoY.
@opinali Let me get this straight. My graphics card is powerful enough to generate images in playable framerates. Multiple pictures per second. Not any images, but ones that are based 3d engine based control input.
To me that sounds crazy good. How to unlock this inference power?
Every scene/game had VERY simple illumination; often just ambient light. Sun/outdoors. They didn't pick their usual Path Traced demos with tons of light sources and emissives. I bet the model isn't even close to do all the guesswork for this. Especially without SSR effects.
Resident Evil Requiem VR Mod is coming VERY soon and I’ve been given the honour of showing it first. Full 6DOF, Head based tracking, the works!: youtu.be/YNBVRJVsJ0E?si…
No single image of Starfield better illustrates how toothless, gutless, lacking in grit and texture than this one does. I made the mistake of visiting Neon late in my playthrough, excited about the idea of visiting a sleazy Cyberpunk planet. What I found was a clown show. There is something hollow and sad about the entirety of Starfield's worldbuilding and lore, that I can't even bring myself to be mad about - I'm just disappointed. This doesn't feel like a universe comprised of competing factions and people, it feels like a bunch of empty mannequins shooting at each other over nothing. Everything feels so dumbed down and family friendly. All the edges filed off to make everything palatable and bland. It's sad.
Clavicular prematurely ends his Channel 5 interview with Andrew Callaghan
“If you want to be completely disingenuous, that’s fine with me..I guess there’s just no point to continue”
@xuwu Fair points, but Horizon today still does not look very far off that early image.
And the reason why ppl keep using that image is Zuck explicitly chose it to advertise the product at the time. It was such a ridiculous choice that it is still deservedly reused to mock the brand.
Every so often, another clickbait headline shows up trying to dunk on XR. It is tiring. Let’s just stick to the facts.
Horizon Worlds VR probably cost around $2 billion at most.
Start from the top. Reality Labs had around 14,000 people before. After the layoffs in January, it still has more than 10,000 people, and the core work is still going on. That includes headsets, glasses, operating systems, new hardware, foundational research, first-party content, and developer relations.
Within that, the broader Horizon-related team was probably around 2,000 people, including people working on the OS, the VR app, the mobile app, and the engine side.
If you narrow it all the way down to just the Horizon Worlds VR product, and even round up generously, call it 500 people. Then assume a very high annual cost of $1 million per person. That gets you to around $500 million a year. Over five years, that is roughly $2.5 billion.
And that old early screenshot people keep reposting was just a temporary build from an earlier stage. It was updated pretty quickly after that.
There has absolutely been real criticism of Horizon Worlds inside the industry, but in the end, that is a product problem, not some sweeping verdict on XR.
People should stop overreading it. A lot of this is just exaggerated for headlines, clicks, and engagement.
@digitalfoundry Oh no, you've stumbled into a "damned if you do; damned if you don't" dilemma lol
People these days appreciate authenticity above all. Just say how you feel and explain why. Also, make it clear when your feedback is paid because I think that was the biggest issue people had.

@MarkChangizi As a fellow sane person who basically never thought about Israel for most of my life, it is getting so tiring seeing how many people blame everything on "the Jews" from both sides of the woke.
Need a name for those who are
- not Woke Left
- not Woke Right
- anti-Islamist
- aggressive to bullies
- not anti-Semitic
- not “I’m not anti-Jew I’m anti-[BS here]”
- for free speech
- for civil liberties
- against “balancing” civil liberties
- for free markets
- for cost benefit analyses
- for tight immigration
- against isolationism
- contemptuous of international law
- against foreign dictatorships
- “America First,” not “Israel Last”
- love Iranians
- “Free Iran” but not “Free Palestine”
- appreciative that strength brings peace
- want Cuba free
Suggestions?
