What always stands out to me about Japan is how it thinks about the future. Long-term. With purpose. Through partnership. From innovation to impact, I saw this mindset in action in my visit to Tokyo. @UNDP is proud to partner with Japan to change lives across the world.

The @EUpalestinians & the #UN released today the final #Gaza Rapid Damage and Needs Assessment (RDNA), jointly conducted with the @WorldBankMENA following 24 months of conflict. $71.4B needed for recovery & reconstruction over the next decade, including $26.3B in the first 18 months. With massive destruction to housing, health & education, and an 84% economic contraction, #recovery must start now- alongside #humanitarian action.   For more details, full press release & report: UNSCO: shorturl.at/l0LhS UN Palestine: shorturl.at/KdFnG

A pleasure to meet Zou Jiayi, President of @AIIBOfficial. UNDP and AIIB can do more together: driving low-carbon growth, creating jobs, advancing digital transformation, and scaling blended finance by aligning policy, de-risking, and capital.

With @UNReliefChief in Damascus. Humanitarian aid saves lives. Development sustains them: restoring basic services, rebuilding livelihoods, creating jobs. Working as one, we help move Syria from crisis to recovery, and from recovery to stability. This is delivery in action.

On #MineAction Day, I think of families like Billy’s in the Solomon Islands who are living each day with hidden dangers beneath their feet. 80 years on, WWII munitions still threaten their safety & their environment. shorturl.at/BIE9G #IMAD2026

In fragile & crisis-affected contexts, climate action is shaped by what conflict leaves behind. Contaminated land & water from unexploded ordnance constrain how communities adapt & recover. See how @UNDP supports #MineAction to build climate resilience👉 go.undp.org/Szw

.@UNDP is gravely concerned by reports of damage to health facilities in Iran, incl. the Pasteur Institute. Health infrastructure & personnel must be protected under international humanitarian law. Disruption risks essential services & access to care for the most vulnerable.
Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus@DrTedros

Multiple attacks on health have been reported in the Iranian capital, Tehran, in recent days amid the escalating conflict in the Middle East. The Pasteur Institute in Iran sustained significant damage and was rendered unable to continue delivering health services. The Institute was established in 1920 and has been operating for over a century in multiple areas of medical research. It plays an important role in protecting and promoting population health, including in emergencies. Two of its departments have been working with @WHO as collaborating centres. In addition, the Delaram Sina Psychiatric Hospital sustained significant damage due to a strike on 29 March, and the Tofigh Daru pharmaceutical facility, which produced medicines for treating cancer and multiple sclerosis, was damaged in another attack on 31 March. No casualties were reported from these incidents. Since 1 March, WHO has verified over 20 attacks on health care in Iran, resulting in at least nine deaths, including that of an infectious diseases health worker and a member of the Iranian Red Crescent Society. Attacks on health have also been recorded outside Tehran, including on 21 March, when an explosion nearby Imam Ali Hospital in Andimeshk, Khuzestan province, led to the facility’s evacuation and cessation of services. The conflict in Iran, and the region, is impacting the delivery of health services and the safety of health workers, patients, and civilians present at health facilities. Peace is the best medicine.

🇺🇳🇸🇾 Meeting w/ Syrian President @AH_AlSharaa, together with @UNReliefChief. Syrians deserve recovery that is visible & fast: water, electricity, housing, schools, clinics. Restoring these basics is what gives families strength & hope to return home and rebuild their lives.

You cannot build a future on a minefield. In Syria, unexploded ordnance keeps families from home, farmers from their land, children from school. Clearing mines helps people rebuild their lives. Together with partners, @UNDP is helping to make that possible. #MineAwarenessDay

🇺🇳🇸🇾 Post-war Syria can be a success story if we stand with its people. It’s time for the international community to scale up development support — so hospitals can be rebuilt, schools can reopen & Syrians can return safely home.
