@McCulloughFund how can this man be so wrong about saturated fat? he appears totally good with most other things but not on this. he really needs to consult with experts on this such as Ben Bickman et al. This is so depressing!

Keep Saturated Fat Under 10 Grams Daily! Excess saturated fat drives insulin resistance and cardiovascular risk. Keeping intake below 10 grams per day supports metabolic health, reduces inflammation, and improves lipid balance—especially when paired with whole foods and adequate protein. @zoeharcombe OK so what do we all do now? This is so depressing. Who went against the science? What evidence did they use to argue their case? Who argued the case for saturated fat (us)? If US now including "keto" approach, how can it be achieved wthout sat fat?

This is the end of the road folks. If this administration doesn't ditch the cap on saturated fat, none will. It's a huge missed opportunity & it's 100% wrong. There is no evidence against sat fat - how could there be when it's in every food other than sucrose? This is politics😡
Nina Teicholz, PhD@bigfatsurprise

The new US Dietary Guidelines for Americans are slated to be released tomorrow! This policy is by far the most important nutrition reform of this administration. Sadly, butter will not be back, after all. See this and other changes to the guidelines--a sneak peek in this column. No paywall. unsettledscience.substack.com/p/butter-is-no…

@thelowcarb_rd Demonising saturated fat is scientifically wrong. Its the biggest hurdle in getting people to beleive in reducing their carbs and saving their long term health.

@KenH_TN @newstart_2024 I got control after 30+ yrs and truly grateful to the people who helped me get it done. By the way, its not news as this approach been around for a century or so. It was also standard practice back in 50s for sugar diabetes. Advice then changed with the name.

@newstart_2024 As a person with type 2 diabetes for 20 years, I was told at the outset that I could control my diabetes with a low carb diet. My doctor prescribed a session with a dietician and I did control it for 10 years that way. But controlling it is not reversing it. False claim IMHO.

Our 150 cases of drug free T2D remission represent more than a quarter of all those with type two diabetes in our UK NHS practice Since 2018 we have saved £370,000 on the diabetes drug budget This shows how PREVENTION can pay for itself @wesstreeting @DiabetesUK are you interested?
Dr David Unwin@lowcarbGP

@AriDurresi @lowcarbGP @wesstreeting @DiabetesUK Unfortunately NHS guidance/treatment was changed in the 70s, along with changing the name to T2 diabetes? I used to take both my mother and father to get their "sugar diabetes" stabilised in hospital for up to a weeks stay. Today there no diff in food given?

CGMs are the future. Dear X friends I am experimenting with continuous glucose monitoring and interested in non food factors that put blood glucose up or down. For example as you see a sauna at 16:00 put it up! What have any of you citizen scientists found ??

@Kazwill77 @WalesOnline A bit ageist there! Generalisation of people in society is lazy at best and divisive at worst. Am I the only over 60 to buck this trend 🤔, I don’t think so.

@WalesOnline Reform appeal to the over 60's because when they were growing up, people of colour were few and far between. What they don't seem to grasp though, is that if it wasn't for people with brown skin, the NHS would be virtually non existent. Reform are nothing but glorified EDL

I'm all for a "food first" approach. However, replacing all chicken and red/processed meat with a whey/soy #protein supplement would do no harm and would probably be nutritionally beneficial for most. NOT advocating, just hypothesizing. Thoughts?

@lowcarb_mark @lowcarbGP If they say you can’t but you did, then the problem moves to them. 3 years low carb and no longer T2. Been insulin resistant over 30years before that. I am my own evidence, which is nice 👌

@wacker2009 @DrScottMurray @Gearoidmuar @grahamsphillips @realDaveFeldman Mathew, I had scan with Scott at Venturi. From my experience, certainly worth checkg alongside NHS lipid panel. Note you probably need another in 5 years? to check progression? Pity NHS doesnt support CAC as cuts through the confusion caused by decades of lipid number zealots😉

Warning to all the keto warriors. You are not invincible. Saw someone with 20 year badge of honour today. Looked amazing on outside. CTCA for very high lipids. CAC score 400, ostial left main and LAD moderate plaque 😨. Aspirin and Statin applied. Get yourself checked 🙏🤞

Sunak "For the first time in UK history pensioners will pay tax". Is very inaccurate phrasing. Pensioners do pay tax just like everyone else. What he's talking about is paying tax if you get the full State Pension and have no other income. #ITVdebate

@MattWalshBlog nobody ever claims that the laws of thermodynamics don’t apply, but a caloric deficit is only known in hindsight when weight drops. While it’s easy to know how many calories are consumed, the calories burned is much more complicated especially in metabolically broken individuals. The body is not a simple test tube. Metabolism is complex and energy partitioning is hormonally driven. Hunger and satiety are also hormonally driven. Do you really believe that your own weight is stable because you’re good at math and get it right every single day? Multiple hormones play a role that keeps you at a set point. Some of the energy consumed can be locked away in fat cells and becomes inaccessible unless insulin level drops. Insulin stimulates fat storage and people eating the ultra processed standard American diet have chronically elevated insulin stimulating fat storage and inhibiting fat breakdown for energy use. I worked with 100s of patients who dropped their calories but couldn’t lose weight (and were constantly hungry) unless they change the type of calories that makes their insulin drops. Again the laws of thermodynamics applies and everyone who loses weight is in caloric deficit, but the devil is in the details and not as simple as telling someone to eat less and move more.

So many people in my comments over the past several days solemnly insisting that even with exercise and a caloric deficit they still gain weight. It has been very instructive to see the level of delusion and self-deception that fuels the obesity crisis. Many people have honestly convinced themselves that they are magical beings who somehow violate the laws of science, and that's why they aren't losing weight.
