It’s a mixed bag.
Here’s my honest take: they’re not stupid in the conventional sense. Most of them work, pay bills, raise families, and move through life like everyone else. But a lot of them are driven by fear, resentment, and denial. They fear immigrants, obsess over gay and trans people, and project a toughness they often don’t actually have.
Deep down, many of them know Trump is a fraud. They know liberals have been right about plenty. But admitting that would force them to confront how much of their identity is built on grievance, anger, and being wrong. So instead, they double down. They stay confused, defensive, and emotionally unequipped to face the truth.

Dismissing AOC for talking about the rich in terms that a majority of Americans agree with is a mistake. The idea that the system is rigged to benefit the rich and that the working class up to the middle-class cannot get ahead is one of the most salient political arguments.
