physically re-enact the Israelite experience of homelessness, persecution, and impermanence in the wilderness. Grateful to learn from and with young adults of color, as they modeled advanced conversations about implicit bias and educational equity. Feeing full @ELeducation 3/3

Powerful to be here the week of the passing of Rep. Elijah Cummings. I didn’t know he founded the Elijah Cummings Youth Leadership Program in Israel some 20 years ago, bridging ties between the Jewish and African-American communities in Baltimore, and bringing... @ELeducation 1/

Totally worth waking before 4am to fly to Atlanta for this. This crew was fantastic (and not just bc I’m an over-proud EL board mbr). Thank you, thank you for modeling your sophisticated exercises and sharing your powerful experiences—owning your learning and ours! @ELeducation
William Smith Eagles@dubsmitheagles

These wonderful student facilitators just led an amazing session about race and equity at #ELNC19 with a room of 50 educators from all over the country! They represented William Smith with professionalism and confidence! #wearecrew @ELeducation @aurorak12

Yes! @BrooklineRotary’s pancake breakfast is local community-building at its best. Residents of all ages, genders, races, income levels, and native languages in town show up to connect. In an era of awful partisanship, a true “throwback” event but w/a historically diverse crowd!

Blessed to learn w/Gustavo Gutiérrez. Poverty is economic justice but not only economic; it’s dignity, equality. Religion’s not just Mass on Sunday, it’s engaging directly with poverty daily. If you’re alleviating poverty, you’re not ending it. #optionforthepoor @socialconcerns

I hate that my friend @ErinMcAleer1 had to write this, but am grateful she did: "Unless a compromise is reached to re-open the federal government, 769,912 MA residents who rely on federal food assistance to make ends meet will not have enough food to eat." wbur.org/cognoscenti/20…

Powerful, inspirational, provocative thread from @TheRaDR. What parts of myself / my world must I decompose, shatter, crack, and shed now? Relevant to Tu B’shevat and to MLK Day. And also, to very different yet parallel reflections today from @AnandWrites.

Thank you @RepJoeKennedy. I/E founder Hadassah Margolis is a treasured, talented leader. 100s of residents braved icy winds to meet scores of service orgs. And to help rename Devotion School—a huge opportunity for Brookline to show what we value. Deadline is 1/23! @BrooklineTAB
Joe Kennedy III@joekennedy

For the second year in a row, @inspoexpo organizations from across the Brookline community will gather at Kehillath Israel on MLK Day to elevate service opportunities in the neighborhood. Learn more here: facebook.com/events/1040407…

A growing chorus of voices in philanthropy pointing to the centrality of racial & economic justice if we want to build a more just and equitable country. Getting to the heart of it. philanthropy.com/article/How-Ca… via @Philanthropy

I’d missed this about immigration, thank you @Avik. I will note that every single person I know who was a Republican prior to 2016 (from moderate Rs to highly conservative Rs) is to the right of Donald Trump on the deficit / most fiscal issues.
Avik Roy@Avik

One thing about @MittRomney that isn’t widely understood: he has criticized Trump *from the right* on immigration. “I’m also more of a hawk on immigration than even the President,” he said last March: bit.ly/2urW5Vc

“And hope and history rhyme.” Love that phrase & love this poem. I still remember the feeling when I read it and cut it out 28 years ago (on a page of poems on New Year’s Day in ⁦@nytimes⁩—a tradition it should restart!) “So hope for a great sea-change....” Happy New Year!

“Islam is a religion, not a “race,” so it’s difficult to see why this development fits into the Times-constructed category of “stories about race.”” Exactly ⁦⁦⁦⁦⁦@IraStoll⁩ - I’m hearing an uptick of confusion about the ‘Jewish race’ too. algemeiner.com/2019/01/01/new…
