Evals are emerging as the real moat for AI startups Hard won insights about customers and their business logic discovered by founders acting almost as ethnographers spelunking in the underserved slices of the GDP pie chart
Anjney Midha@AnjneyMidha

The best AI product leader I know makes it a habit of saying ‘taste’ is his differentiator publicly But behind the scenes, it’s all ruthless evals One of the fastest companies to surpass $100M run rate in history

Wish I could have conducted my PhD thesis in the AI era. I read through hundreds of papers, highlighting through stacks of methodologies and results so I could form my own novel hypotheses from the data. Now instant with AI research.google/blog/accelerat…

I agree with Peter Thiel on this: Emotional Intelligence (EI) becomes more valuable as AI and AGI rise. Emotional intelligence and verbal skills will rise in value. Super-intelligence doesn’t guarantee empathy and communication skills. Humans can catch the most invisible human cues. A single speech can move millions to actions and change. A single conversation can change a human’s mental frameworks and inspire change. Those with high emotional intelligence and verbal skills will be a key bridge between Human Intelligence and Artificial Intelligence.
Zain Kahn@heykahn

Peter Thiel: AI is bad news for people for math skills and society is going to shift in favor of people with strong verbal skills.

Lots of excitement about the Gemini announcement, but @GoogleCloud also announced availability of the newest TPU system today, TPU v5p. These systems are quite a bit higher performance and much cost effective than earlier generations. Compared to TPU v4, TPU v5p (see table image below): o 1.67X the bfloat16 perf/chip o ~3X the memory per chip o Adds int8 operations at 918 TOPs/chip o 2X the ICI network bandwidth o Pods are 2.18X larger So, whole pod is 4.1 bfloat16 exaflops, and 8.2 int8 exaops Real performance on training a GPT-3-like model is 2.8X higher per chip, and 2.1X better perf/$. cloud.google.com/blog/products/…

Here's my 🔥 hot take on ChatGPT Plugins: It's immediately apparent that this is the best channel for an impressive set of AI applications. Several talented folks I know are dropping everything to focus on this exclusively. 1/

ChatGPT casually dropped an APP STORE 🤯 It can now: - browse the web (RIP Bing waitlist, cutoff) - write and run Python (RIP replit?) - access org info (RIP docsearch startups) - add third party plugins from OpenTable, Wolfram, Instacart, Zapier, etc) - developer SDK in preview

@kenk616 Luckily though PMs tend to have very little direct reporting structure, which almost forces you to learn how to lead by influence rather than by hierarchy, or else you won’t be able to get anything done

The problem with the “PMs are the CEO of a product” mantra is that most folks who recite it also believe CEOs should be top down and dictatorial, as opposed to believing that leaders are responsible for ensuring a good decision is made, not to make all decisions themselves.

@kenk616 Ego and fear. I see many people putting themselves in the critical path rather than trying to remove themselves from it out of fear of not being important or relevant, or fear of losing control. Its a mistake. It’s much better to be wanted than to be needed.

Somewhere along the road we started listening to VCs more than founders on company-building. This is a big mistake. The depth you reach as a founder is incomparable to that of an investor.
