My neighbor is replacing their HVAC system today. Their house is slightly bigger than ours. Total cost for everything: $34,000!!!!! What in the hell? He said they have tripled in cost since COVID. What a crock of crap.

Great to join the annual Memorial Day WOOGMS Parade in the 44th Ward. I grew up in this area and marched in this parade as a kid, so always fun to attend with my kids!

Growing up on the South Side of Chicago when we went to a cottage/lake house it was almost always in Indiana or Michigan. My friends who grew up North Side always went to Wisconsin. Better place for a lake house. Indiana, Michigan or Wisconsin?

Yesterday I added a post about my personal experience with pneumonia while trying to make sense of the tragic death of Kyle Busch. The number of people who shared a similar story overwhelmed me. It is just too common that healthy people in their 30/40s get pneumonia and barely get help in time. Some thoughts: 1) Ask your doctor if you can get the pneumonia vaccine 2) Take any lung issues very seriously no matter how young or fit you are 3) Be your own best advocate. See a doctor. The world will still be spinning on its axis when you return 4) You are worth getting medical attention! 5) If nothing above changes your mind, go see a doctor for the people who love you and will be crying for a long time if you are gone.

Re: Kyle Busch dying of severe pneumonia in his early 40’s: When I was in my early 40’s I was very fit, running hard, working hard, doing my MBA on weekends. Got a cold, NBD, kept going. One day, driving out and about, I suddenly felt so bad I stopped by my doctor’s office in case he could see me. Walking pneumonia 😳 Got steroids and antibiotics. Went home, laid down and had the most out of body experience of my life. An hour or so of hot and cold sweats back and forth. My body had been fighting it off, then effectively gave up and the meds were helping fight it off again. This episode unfortunately triggered asthma in me which I am fortunately able to control effectively. Pneumonia can be stealthy and deadly to very fit people with a desire to keep fighting through things. Do not take it lightly! Inexpensive meds help your body fight it off. Don’t be a tough guy!

@bertram_the_mom We’re 67 and 70 and our youngest is 27. We chose this course for ourselves. In our 40s we bought our first house. Is this unusual? Seemed perfectly normal and our friends are same.

My parents having zero self awareness yesterday talking about how they owned their first house at 25 and had already started a family and then my mom goes “was talking to a friend and she has a 25 year old at 60, could you imagine??” I was like, “Mom, that’s going to be us.” 🙄+

If you are 30 and make $100k, you should have at least $100k saved for retirement (1x) If you are 45 and make the same $100k, you should have at least $400k saved (4x) If you are 50, you should have $600k (6x). If you are 60, you should have $800k (8x) Are you on track?

By Jasmine Crockett: "Hey Tim Scott, You spent years tap dancing through every interview, every speech, every Sunday show appearance telling America that racism was basically over and that your success story proved everybody else just needed to work harder and complain less. You carried water for people who mocked civil rights, demonized poor people, gutted diversity programs, attacked voting rights, and treated Black history like a disease. And for what? No VP slot. No cabinet throne. No real power. Not even basic respect. You confessed your admiration on national television for people who viewed you as nothing more than a convenient talking point — the “See? We have one!” guy standing in the background smiling on cue. Then the second you showed the smallest trace of independence and questioned that disgusting Obama monkey post, your own side turned on you like starving wolves. Suddenly the loyal house servant wasn’t loyal enough. Now you’re sitting in a car recording cellphone videos reminding the world that you’re still Black. Trust us, Senator — nobody forgot. The problem is that you spent so much time trying to convince other people that racism wasn’t real that now, when it smacks you directly in the face, you want sympathy from the same community you lectured for years. You defended the people stripping away protections for minorities, women, the poor, and working-class families. You stood beside people cheering the destruction of programs our grandparents marched, bled, and died for. And now you look shocked that the crowd you entertained never actually saw you as an equal. The Bible talks about the Prodigal Son returning home after losing everything. But the Prodigal Son came home humble. You spent years helping burn the house down. And now you’re politically homeless: too Black for the people you defended, too eager to defend them for the people you abandoned. That’s the tragedy of selling your dignity for a seat at a table that was never meant for you. Tim, you may be the PRODIGAL SON, BUT YOU CAN’T COME HOME." We saw it coming. He didn't want to.

Stage I pancreatic cancer: 44% 5-year survival. Stage IV pancreatic cancer: 3%. By the time most patients reach me, they're already Stage IV. The gap is almost entirely detection. Three findings primary care should treat as pancreatic until imaging proves otherwise 👇

Potatoes are cheap, filling, easy to stretch, and they make a plate feel like an actual dinner. Diet culture made potatoes sound like the problem when most of the time it was the frying, toppings, restaurant portions, and snack foods built around them. A plain potato is not the enemy. It’s one of the most useful grocery staples.
