For me a personal AGI would be to take the Andrew Wiles proof (or Taylor-Wiles) for Fermat last theorem and convert into a video lecture with same clarity as Gilbert Strang lecture. None of the systems can do it yet. I would happy and get addicted to such a system if one exists, until then continue ramping compute until this is achieved.

I finally come to terms with what @demishassabis has been saying and doing, only thing that matters as a goal for building AI is accelerating science that helps us as a species. AI is just the most useful tool to build for it. Building AI one can get lost in the science of AI itself but those don’t matter in the long term, it only matters if we have improve sciences that directly improve the human condition!

@lukaszkaiser Alas Air Canada doesn't land at the international terminal. I do remember that they are free there indeed!

1/4 For the last several years I worked part-time at the FAIR lab at Meta, in addition to being a professor at UC Berkeley. That phase is now over, and starting Jan. 5, I will be leading a robotics research effort at Amazon FAR in San Francisco, while continuing at Berkeley.

@doomie I feel like meme may have gotten it less attention than it deserves from engineering crowd. Any idea why it was positioned anti LLM? It could have been positioned as better compression via bottlenecks to force denoising.

On a long flight, I finally decided to dive into what JEPA is all about. You can convert an encoder decoder into JEPA by the following: - target encoder replaced by moving average of encoder to avoid collapse - Use a projection to get a summary embedding, instead of token embedding for both input and target - use all the clever loss to avoid scale sensitivity If you want tokens out, slap a decoder ontop of the summary representation. Feels like all of this could be an ablation.
