@TheRealJamieKay @UKLabour Because duty is a fixed amount, regardless of the base cost of the fuel. And we are skint. There’s an argument to say she could cut VAT on fuel, which might be cost neutral, but every business in the land would have to update their accounting systems, so would need a lead time.

Why doesn’t @UKLabour reduce the duty on fuel?

Oil prices down 15% overnight, so that means petrol prices will be cheaper today that’s how it works isn’t it

From today, energy bills will come down. Labour took the decision to bring down bills by asking the wealthiest to pay a little more. That’s the fair thing to do. We know there’s more to do to tackle the cost of living but this is an important step.
