@e2021da17 @ClementSWWan I’m so sorry that you can’t read, he did mention in his tweet that income tax is only a small part of their wealth. Warren Buffett is worth billions and yet his income was 100k at Berkshire.

Amazing. This is an "economist" who "spent sixteen years at the International Monetary Fund" and is listed on the faculty of Fordham University's Business School. But he can't read a graph. That *he* posted. What does this say about the IMF, Fordham and whereever he got his economics degree?

Debunking Bezos’s nonsense that the rich pay most of the taxes. (He’s only talking about a narrow slice, the federal income tax). And these days are from 2019 - the rich even less today thanks to Trump.

@ClementSWWan I think it says more about you, the point is that bezos and other rich people avoid taxes because most of their wealth is not taxed as income.

Troy was so good. But you have to realize people at the time thought this was a B movie. The Lord of the Rings movies had just come out. Gladiator was only a few years old. Pirates of the Caribbean was the year before. We just thought movies would be good forever.

The next stage of this contest will be for red states to subdivide into multiple new states. The procedure is remarkably easy. State legislature votes by majority vote to split, and then US Congress passes enabling legislation on party lines. It will be harder for blue states to reciprocate, as they are often like Illinois, with a heavily Republican hinterland attached to a single dominant blue city. Dividing Illinois would likely just add a GOP state. Their concentration is their weakness.
Hunter📈🌈📊@StatisticUrban

It's probably time to fully computer chip Illinois. The Supreme Court and Republicans want *no* limits on gerrymandering? Alright. The worst district here was still Harris +9.7, it would reliably return 17D-0R.

People are complaining about hardbacks, but the ABSOLUTE WORST medium is the C Format Paperback. They are large and unwieldy with massive margins and gutters. Of course, Australian publishers fucking love to print them at a $34.99 RRP.

@abdimoalim_ I like gitlab :| maybe they should buy a figma license or something, but it is perfectly functional. I've used it for 50 person+ teams. The CI in particular is much better than github

In the 1990s there were all these couples adopting hyphenated names after marriage, but by now, say, Harris-Sipowicz would have married Brown-Rodriguez -- but I don't see four-barreled names, so what happened? Sincerely curious.

I get really annoyed by people saying that the “rational” or “game theory” answer is to vote red here. This a coordination problem: there are two optimal outcomes: everyone votes red or >50% vote blue. People dying is (I hope) not an optimal outcome even for the red voters
Tim Urban@waitbutwhy

Everyone in the world has to take a private vote by pressing a red or blue button. If more than 50% of people press the blue button, everyone survives. If less than 50% of people press the blue button, only people who pressed the red button survive. Which button would you press?

@CovfefeAnon @annakhachiyan @dystopiangf This is what retard men think about women when they have no theory of mind to see anything but from a male perspective. Women have always been acutely aware of second order effects on their lives. That’s why they have largely opted out of marriage and children.

Casual sex is unironically a huge part of why so many women have become politically radicalized. If you ask a random woman why she hates men, 95% chance it boils down to sexual grievance, accumulated from embarrassing experiences like the OP. In other words, women are the real incels (in spirit). I witnessed this myself in college: one too many bad situationships, and they begin to carry this feeling of being a piece of meat everywhere, projecting it onto “society” despite there being zero material evidence of structural misogyny in the West. The bitter irony is that hookup / situationship culture is a byproduct of feminism; they fought for the ability to be treated like pieces of meat, to be equal to men sexual the way gay men are with each other, but the attainment of this freedom has done nothing but foment an even deeper hatred of their father’s civilization

@dmesg @PlusEVAnalytics what would the interviewer do in this scenario if they picked the acceptance letter, still offer you to switch? The scenario makes no sense unless they know they won't do that, so it is the monty hall problem

@PlusEVAnalytics The Monty Hall problem specifies that the interviewer knew ahead of time he was opening a rejection envelope; this doesn't. Without that specification it's not the same as the MH problem.

I’ve said this before, But one of the biggest shifts for Taiwanese embrace of China in the 2030s will be basically the demographic situation and the overwhelming Taiwanese desire to not have substantial South Asian migration. Far better to get hordes of rural Chinese migrants than Indian in the mind of the average taiwanese urban resident. It is what it is.

People wanted democracy and then they got it. The naked, ugly truth is that the plebbeian garbage flooding X today is just what the average idiot finds compelling. Liberal posters are now noticing the absence of the artificial boost old Twitter accorded them. They're not upset that X is biased - they're upset that the bias no longer favours them.

There’ll be bullshit written by the truckload about the One Nation “surge” in SA. But it’s only split the right wing vote. It’ll get knuckledraggers like Bernardi into the occasional upper house seat, but that’s about it. The effect is to cement Labor in government.
