Yep - 42 years to actually end ground rents which underpin the whole rotten leasehold system. There's an assumption that all remaining leaseholders will buy the freehold well before then but what if they still can't afford it even with LFRA valuation?! We held a drop-in for leaseholders in Hallsville Quarter. Residents were pleased to hear about planned leasehold & ground rent reforms but concerned about rising service charges. I’ve been working with local leaseholder groups & will continue to push for further changes.

Does that include pressure from freehold lobbyists and the treasury to water down Leasehold reforms? Not much evidence of acting in the best interests of British leaseholders as far as I can see…

This is the root of our housing crisis - greedy developers. £450 million profit this year, three times more than that by the end of this decade - but Berkeley complains that the business of house building is just too hard, boo-hoo. The reality is that the less houses get built the higher the asking prices for those that do (and the higher the profits) - this is supply side control like we see with OPEC the oil and gas cartel. Labour should break the stranglehold that the housebuilding industry has on house supply in our country - building 100k new homes a year, even 200k is woefully inadequate, when our population grows by 750k every year. NEWS: FREEHOLDER LOBBY LAWFARE AGAINST 2024 ACT SET TO CONTINUE AS COURT OF APPEAL GIVES GREEN LIGHT 📢 Reports today from industry sources on LinkedIn suggest that the freeholder lobby has been granted permission by the Court of Appeal to proceed with an appeal relating to its judicial review of the Leasehold and Freehold Reform Act 2024, which it lost at the High Court in October. There has been no official confirmation as of 14:46 on Thursday 2 April 2026. We believe that what the freeholder lobby is doing is an attack on the will of the people. They lost in elections, they lost the debate with policymakers, and are now trying to torpedo an Act of Parliament through the courts. All of the original claimants who were thrashed in October by a comprehensive and devastating High Court decision, bar the John Lyon’s Charity, are involved. Their continuing judicial review trolling risks having a chilling effect on government as it looks at commencing the 2024 Act, most of which is sat rusting, and considers the new draft Commonhold and Leasehold Reform Bill. We urge the @UKLabour government not to hide behind the judicial review to continue its stalling of the enfranchisement reforms. The judiciary is not hierarchically superior to other branches of the state. Parliament is still sovereign. Government can still govern. Show politics is a force for good, as you promised @Keir_Starmer. Otherwise the people will continue to think democracy is controlled by Big Money, not voters. By letting the freeholder lobby call the shots, you are abandoning Labour’s historic mission of taking on rentier interests for a fairer society. Your namesake Keir Hardie would be raging right now.

For the second night in a row there has been mass disorder in London. There must not be a third. Groups of youths should not be able to run riot through our streets. The police should be deployed en masse as an obvious precautionary measure and arrests made immediately if disorder breaks out once again.  It's time Sadiq Khan did his actual job.
