I’ve written and researched the whole seven front war since 7th October. It has been my whole professional life. I’ve written many papers and have just finished my book. I have written both positive and negative critiques of the war. All of that feels irrelevant in this context. The most meaningful thing I have done since 7th October is bear witness and relay the horrors done that day. I have seen part of the sexual crime evidence in this report (above and beyond the 47 minute reel) and it remains the most horrific thing I have seen in my life. Nothing Israel has done in Gaza comes remotely close to the horrors of 7th October. The Gaza war and 7th October don’t deserve to be in the same conversation when it comes to atrocity. No comparison. The rapes are the thing Hamas and their supporters are most scared of being exposed to the world. Every time I have written about what I have seen, 5x the usual amount of bots descend upon my replies. Abuse and outright denial. Now, the evidence I have seen, and more, is out there. While ordinarily newspapers censor the full horrors of such accounts from Oct 7, today the Daily Mail as hard as it is, publishes the details because unbelievably, some still question the largest slaughter of Jews since the Holocaust.  Even certain sections of the established media have suggested that the extent of sexual violence committed by the terrorists may have been exaggerated. The UN, too, dragged its heels in recognising the atrocities committed. I want to talk to you not about October 7—when 1,200 people in peaceful border communities were murdered—but about what happened afterward, and what was so startling to me. It wasn’t the violence. We’ve seen violence from the jihadists before. What was so startling to me was the reaction here on our Western campuses, in our Western media outlets, and in our international institutions—institutions that, in many cases, like the United Nations and the International Court of Justice, were created precisely in the wake of a real genocide: the Holocaust against the Jews. Part of what has happened over the last three years was reflected in the things we saw in the days after October 7—October 8, October 9, October 10—when 1,200 Jews were murdered and, by the way, about 26 Americans were butchered, mutilated, and burned alive, all on video for the whole world to see. In many cases, those videos were uploaded by the terrorists themselves onto the victims’ own social media feeds so that the victims’ family members could see the most horrifying and final moments of their loved ones’ lives as they scrolled through their phones at breakfast. And yet, we Jews became the oppressors. At the United Nations, we Jews became the violators of human rights. How can this be? Where does this moral inversion, this moral confusion, come from? This is a shameful stain on Belgium. The prosecution of these religious figures (mohels), one of whom is American, is WRONG and won’t be tolerated. Belgium will be thought of now as anti Semitic by world. Until this is resolved - there is no way around it. The Trump Administration condemns this judicial action and also condemns the political inaction by the Belgium Government to find a solution with the beautiful Jewish communities here in Belgium. We call upon the Belgium Government to work with the Jewish leaders and communities to find a certification solution immediately. For the sake of Belgium’s reputation around the world, I hope the Belgian Government will act NOW.
