🇵🇰On 22 March 2025, Mahrang Baloch was arrested alongside Beebow Baloch during a peaceful protest in Quetta. Her sister remembers waking to dozens of missed calls, rushing to Quetta, and walking into a home filled with dread. They spent their first Eid visiting her in prison. Today, one full year later, they are spending their third Eid without her. This Eid, Mahrang marks her full year in prison, facing deteriorating health, which threatens to impair her mobility. 📍Iran 🚨After months of threats, Iranian authorities have re-arrested human rights defender and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi, who had been conditionally released from prison a year ago for medical reasons. Mohammadi was violently detained by plain lothed security forces today, alongside other human rights defenders and journalists including Alieh Motalebzadeh, Sepideh Gholian, Hasti Amiri, Pouran Nazemi and other participants at the seventh day memorial ceremony of the late lawyer Khosrow Alikordi, a prominent human rights lawyer with a history of defending protesters and dissidents in Iran who was found dead on 5 December. Iranian authorities have not yet communicated any information on the whereabouts of Mohammadi and her colleagues, nor the formal reason for their detention. Security forces fired mortar rounds on a civilian home in Hoshab and five young girls were hit by the blasts. One of the girls later died from her injuries. This incident shows a pattern in which heavy weapons are used near populated areas with no regard for civilian life. The death of a child exposes a level of state violence that has become routine in Balochistan. Enforced disappearances, custodial killings, raids on homes, and the repeated use of mortars in villages form a single structure of abuse. Families face loss, trauma, and fear. Communities live under pressure created by actions carried out with full impunity. Announced inquiries in past cases produced no punishment for those involved, and this record allows the same incidents to continue. The death in Hoshab fits into a wider pattern that many in Balochistan describe as systematic genocide carried out under state protection. The continued use of force against civilians, including children, shows a complete collapse of accountability.
