No offense to either, but I wonder how many times either of them has talked to the Gov and/or WH to try to play an active role. I’d love for @tatereeves to call a special to get a few things tidied up, but I understand his concerns. Both sides have compelling arguments. My guess is he is extremely concerned with the precedent this would set with us already having had primaries. By the way, folks at the WH know it is an issue as well.

Austin Barbour joined me for a Mississippi politics primer: • 2027 governor race • Lieutenant governor power • Fitch, Hosemann, White, Gipson, Duff, Gunn • Michael Watson’s LG bid • Redistricting • Ole Miss/State influence Full show: open.spotify.com/episode/7LjYe0…

@RobertFosterMS I still don’t understand how those judicial districts got out of the legislature. On the legislative side, only one of the three members of the SBEC pushed to immediately challenge the result. I was outvoted 2-1.

Today, I am announcing the formation of a Senate Select Committee on Redistricting and Reapportionment following the Supreme Court’s ruling in Louisiana v. Callais and the Governor’s decision to rescind the upcoming special session on Supreme Court redistricting. This committee’s work will begin immediately in preparation for the 2027 legislative session or sooner should the Governor call us back in session. I have full confidence that this committee, led by Senator Kirby, will meet in the coming months to gather information, review data, and evaluate potential future redistricting of congressional, legislative, and State Supreme Court districts in light of the Callais decision. I kind of think the podcast is a medium in major decline.

In explaining his decision to leave Ole Miss for LSU, Lane Kiffin seems willing to invoke Ole Miss's struggle to distance itself from symbols like the Confederate flag, Colonel Rebel, and the nickname "Ole Miss" itself. When he was coaching there, Kiffin says, top recruits would tell him, “‘Hey, coach, we really like you. But my grandparents aren’t letting me move to Oxford, Mississippi.’ That doesn’t come up when you say Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Parents were sitting here this weekend saying the campus’s diversity feels so great: ‘It feels like there’s no segregation’” vanityfair.com/news/story/lan…
