Term life or whole life? Term life if: - You need maximum coverage at low cost - You're protecting income, kids, mortgage - Budget is tight right now Whole life if: - You've maxed your registered accounts - You want lifelong coverage and estate planning - You're a high income earner with complex needs For most Canadians term + invest the difference is the better move. What does your family have right now?

@MarkMcGrathCFP @SparkingFIRENC I think of this all the time. Especially when I retire in 10 years. There is something nice about locking the door to an apartment and walking away to go on vacation. Or having mobility of moving without having to sell a house.

@67Dodge You never know with new American brands. Dunkin’ could be a huge success or with all the anti Americanism go the way of Target.

Tim Hortons is still growing, albeit at a slow pace. The brand is weaker compared to when I was a creative director on the branding/advertising side 😂 but it still provides a strong moat. Enough Canadians are very loyal. Tims is still part of the Canadian fabric. I don't think there are enough Canadian Canada-haters to support Dunkin. Maybe they stick in a couple dozen Quebec locations, at best. @FoodProfessor

"Tim Hortons still commands enormous market share, but it no longer enjoys the same unquestioned dominance it once did." -Dr. Sylvain Charlebois. thestarphoenix.com/opinion/opinio…

1-click portfolio line of credit (or PLOC) at 3.95% is my favorite product at Wealthsimple right now. So good. Time to break up with your bank!
Canso@DivGrojourney

Thank you, #wealthsimple. A friend of mine needed a car.. as for most canadians, they needed a loan. Car loan at dealer, 8.5% ..wealthsimple 4.45% . Not advice, just stating facts.

@67Dodge That’s actually part of the reason I got it. I live in a township with no garbage pick up. Tossing hot July garbage in an SUV was horrible.

We're about to gift our RAV4 to our daughter, 112,000 km on it, so just broken in for a Toyota, ha. We couldn't bring ourselves to buy a brand new vehice. Vehicles are the biggest waste of money. We're purchasing a 2024 Subaru Outback limited with 55,000 kms. We'll put down 44% of purchase price and do a little financing. Thoughts?
CutTheCrapInvesting@67Dodge

Just had to sell some stocks and ETFs. We're gifting our RAV4 to our daughter to passed her boards, she's on her way to PEI to be a dentist real soon. So glad markets are up so much. I was able to mostly raid the equities instead of the cash and bonds. 💸🚗

@67Dodge Further to my point Subaru is now 20% owned by Toyota, so is Mazda. So you will see more Toyota tech like hybrid systems etc shared with Subaru and Mazda.

@67Dodge As a former Subaru owner I say good choice. Still love the brand but they didn’t offer what I needed when I was shopping for a mid size truck so I bought a Honda Ridgeline.

@MarkMcGrathCFP As a rehabilitated dividend trader investor who has seen the light I know what you’re talking about. It took seeing my returns explode with XEQT to see that growth is king.

Man as much as I've dunked on dividend investors in the past, after living off my portfolio the past few months I definitely get the appeal. I know it's not optimal. I know it's mental accounting. But the emotional and psychological aspect of it is more obvious to me now.

@67Dodge I agree! It’s just horse shit. Just buy an all in one ETF on the regular and relax. Check on it in 30 year later and smile.

@DrunkDividends I forget. I bought my house in 2014. We basically pay $500 per week and that includes the payment, property tax is $50 and I think the mortgage insurance is $20ish. We pay the property tax through the bank. They basically add up those $50 payments and send them to the township.

@DrunkDividends Just remember under 20% down payment triggers CMHC fees which get included in the mortgage payment, plus property tax, house insurance, mortgage insurance, moving fees etc etc.
