Another chapter of American expansion is within our reach through the development of new cities and special economic zones in the United States.

Balaji Srinivasan proposes a western version of the special economic zone where builders can operate at the speed of physics, not permits. “The special Elon zone, or more generally, the special founder zone... It’s like an essentially uninhibited territory, as close to Burning Man as possible” Ben Horowitz: “I think that’s very doable. There’s so many states in the US that would wanna do that. I know Nevada would wanna do that.” @balajis and @bhorowitz on Network State podcast

WSJ says SoftBank’s Son is working with the Trump admin on a network of “Trump Industrial Parks” on federal land, aiming to channel part of Japan’s pledged $550B trade-deal money into US AI factories & chip/DC gear, with the US keeping 90% of profits after Japan recoups its stake

Over the past 50 years, America’s ability to build large construction projects has not just stagnated, it has eroded due to bureaucratic and painful processes. We built physical infrastructure faster, better, and cheaper a century ago than we do today. Proud to invest in @unltdindustries @alexmodon @TaraViswanathan and the entire team at Unlimited to make building infrastructure in America fast again. Unlimited is currently designing and building $100M+ data centers, power plants, and mining facilities, compressing engineering timelines from months into days. And they’re just getting started —hiring across mechanical, electrical, civil, simulation, and software. It’s time to build fast again. 🇺🇸🚀🫡

For most of my life, I assumed technology only moved in one direction: Faster, better, cheaper. Progress felt inevitable. But if you look at the industry that once embodied American ambition, that's not happening. Over the past 50 years, our ability to build large construction projects has not just stagnated, it has eroded. We built faster, better, and cheaper in the 1960s than we do today. What a shame. This is happening at the exact moment we need to build more than ever. More energy to win the AI race, more critical minerals to secure our supply chain, and more advanced manufacturing to reindustrialize. In the last decade, China built an order of magnitude more energy infrastructure than the US. This is not how we win. That is why we’re building Unlimited. We are an AI-native, vertically integrated construction company. We’ve raised a $12M seed round co-led by @a16z (@KTmBoyle) and CIV (Abhijoy Mitra) to redefine how humanity builds. We’re going to automate construction end to end and ensure a future of radical physical abundance. A world where cities rise at the push of a button. Today we are designing and building $100M+ data centers, power plants, and mining facilities. Our AI platform compresses engineering timelines from months to days and delivers optimized designs that simply are not achievable through manual effort. The thing I am most proud of is the team we are building. A small, hyper talented group of multidisciplinary builders who work with intensity, care about craft, and genuinely give a shit. If you want to tackle problems that reshape the physical world and define the new playbook for how civilization builds in the decades ahead, reach out. We are hiring across mechanical, electrical, civil/structural, simulation, and software. We started the company earlier this year, raised money, built out the core technology and team, and kicked off our first real projects. And we’ve done it all under the radar until today. Excited to continue building the team that will build the future of our physical world. It's time to build. @unltdindustries

1/ 🇺🇸 Today, @CAForever submitted detailed plans for the next great American city, an hour north of Silicon Valley, including: Solano Foundry, America’s largest manufacturing park, Solano Shipyard, our largest shipyard, and walkable neighborhoods for 400,000 Californians.

@electricdemon_ fair! i think the LA talent base is already pretty aligned. I’m more interested in appealing to the software talent of SF Bay Area, and there’s already federal land ripe for it :)

there should be a space war college modeled after the naval war college. postgrad-only, with one interdisciplinary degree that combines technical skills —orbital mechanics, systems engineering, cyber, etc. — with strategy: space policy, IR, and political economy. anyone can apply. grads would feed into the space force reserves. in the 20th century, naval strategy defined global power. in the 21st, space strategy will do the same. we need new mahans, corbetts, and rickovers. and of course, it should be built in the presidio or sausalito.

With Senator Lee's land auction gambit off the table, I hope we can get back to discussing Freedom Cities. I think it is of tremendous importance for Americans to prove to ourselves that we can still build aspirational new towns and cities.
