People used to condense knowledge into paragraphs, and write books or articles. Poetry—with our without rhyme—has always existed, mind you. Free verse poetry is no stranger to any English 101 student. The greatest measure of intelligence is the ability to state something simply, and correctly. Arguably, poetically. We live in the age of intellectual compression, and it makes us light enough to operate coherently amongst the stars. If you have learned to condense an idea that could be a paragraph into a sentence, you break it up so people can absorb it. The physical separation means it's a pause, and this is how short form online discourse has worked for all 30 years I've been online—from chat rooms to forums, and social media. Welcome to the free verse club.

It's possible that people who come up through documentary filmmaking don't always have the deepest understanding of what a university is for. If you think Elizabeth Corey is the problem, you definitely do not.
Christopher F. Rufo ⚔️@christopherrufo

"Chris Rufo solved this social problem, but he did it by generating political action rather than asking the libs nicely" is the perfect summation of why much of the conservative movement—and almost all conservative academics—has been utterly ineffective for many decades.

@ReichlinMelnick Aaron, the 100 million is a solid figure. No conspiracy theories, just research melded with 30 years as an immigration officer mixed in with this thing called common sense

To believe Chief Bovino's ridiculous claim that there were 15 million undocumented immigrants in 1975, you'd have to ALSO believe that 12+ million people deliberately chose not to get green cards and a path to citizenship during the Reagan amnesty in 1986.

@brteacher @NateSilver538 Or perhaps one of "the corrupt government that used to pay me to be their propagandist and for whose sake I moved to their country has been replaced and it's time to pretend good faith now that some of it might be exposed and the money is no longer coming anyway."

@Legal_Fil But surely if it was inevitable that someone shat on your face, you would rather have it were someone following a vegan diet, right? You do concede that much?

What do you want Democrats to do? There's nothing they can do. It's very important you continue to vote for them and give them money.

This is absolutely, hysterically, not true. Every time I go to Europe (which is often) I hear about "America is so young. Here we have tradition." And then I get to learn that the pub on the corner dates to before the Salem Witch Trials, and how their family lived in Hoozenberg since 1265. It's hammered into me constantly. I don't even mind. I love hearing about this history. But saying you DON'T claim a heritage in Europe is an outright lie.
Madelaine Hanson@MadelaineLucyH

Americans are so cute with their heritage stuff. Here in Europe you stop claiming heritage from somewhere after about 3 generations. If I went to Belgium and went 'I'm actually Belgian, my great, great, great great aunt lived here!' they'd be like :) ok weirdo

I’m confused why Trump doesn’t dump Israel at this point. His base would be happy, so would the international community and the MSM. They’re not buying him like the Gulf Arabs. The only MAGAs who like Israel are the cultists who would go in any direction. What ties him to them?

The Hasan Piker and "Joe Rogan of the left" stuff is really weird because the entire point of Joe Rogan was that he (for a while, anyway) had a lot of crossover appeal and was seen as apolitical. If anything, Piker is the left's Charlie Kirk or Candance Owens. At best.

@helscom @aronro @soncharm @nikitabier @NateSilver538 Nate gave a straightforward answer to a question publicly addressed at him in the one way that allows his followers to follow the conversation. If Nikita doesn't like it he should eliminate the function. He's the one guy that can.

@Dispropoganda The democrats in that graph were the president, the vicepresident, and Barack Obama. Their replacement for MAGA Voice, Libs of TikTok and Catturd, reflects more than a shift in the site's political leaning, which is not the thing being criticized here.

@artee_49 @NateSilver538 Intellectual dishonesty is precisely what this site promotes, as Nate has been arguing. If quote-twitting is in some oblique way a small part of that problem, it's very much in Nikita's and his team's hands to change it, along with the other, more salient problems.

@NateSilver538 This is totally dishonest. What this (quoting) does is result in viewers not normally spend their time going through tweet history to understand context and rather just see this tweet and the post it’s quoting and try to make judgments based on it. It’s dishonest to do that.

In what sense is it intellectually dishonest, Nikita? The context is clear. My thesis is: I think your algo surfaces too little quality. And I think your excuses in these back-and-forth exchanges have been validating of that. To your credit, it's clear enough you agree with me.

@nikitabier @NateSilver538 Then change it so one can quote-tweet with the context. You work at Twitter don't you? It's astonishing that you'd complain about intellectual dishonesty in the context of this particular conversation.

There's nothing organic about it; it's deliberate choices you and the team are making. And although those choices may have been defensible in the abstract, they're clearly resulting in low-quality content rising to the top. You're a smart dude, you can build a better algo!
Nikita Bier@nikitabier

@NateSilver538 It’s paywalled. If only 0.1% of users can derive value from the content, it will organically rank lower.
