@bseshadri He is depending on two untrustworthy allies - Congress and the Left. Not even Jesus can save him.

Congratulations to Vijay. What he has achieved is phenomenal. Winning the election with good enough numbers, then convincing enough DMK allies to move to you to provide support - the former required loads of charm, the latter a lot of finesse. Well done, whoever was masterminding the negotiations. Indian democracy requires such deal-making and compromises. I wish Vijay, a meaningful full term of 5 years. Please do not bankrupt the treasury in trying to manage the expectations of the people.

@kv_ramanan As lucid as only Ramani can put it. in 2006 though DMK did not have a majority it's leader Karunanidhi took the leaders of the alliance parties along with their letters of support to stake his claim.

The importance given to the floor test in Bommai was in contra-distiction to the parading of MLAs before the Governor. What was denounced was a headcount in Raj Bhavan. It does not mean that the Governor cannot ask for enough letters of support to cross the majority mark. 18/end

There’s little surprise that Governor Rajendra Arlekar’s delay in inviting Vijay, as the leader of the single largest party, to form the government is facing criticism. However, such criticism shouldn’t be facile. Let us examine the logic behind his position. A long thread. 1/n

Let me start this post with a clear Disclaimer: Predicting election outcomes is even more imprecise than predicting the weather. I have been lucky in predicting the last several Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections right and am due to get it wrong. Over the last 2 months I have spoken with thousands of people trying to gauge the mood of the electorate and have visited several of the constituencies too. In my analysis I have relied on the 2024 LS elections data rather than the 2021 data as I believe this may reflect the ground situation better. I have given TVK an overall vote share of 20%, (higher in the urban areas and lower in the rural areas) though I am not convinced that is how much vote share they will get overall. I have factored in VIP constituencies, the intra party issues in some seats, the weakness of the alliance partners and a number of other variables. I have made one assumption: The TVK will take more or less equal vote share from both sides though I have geographically segregated this. A slight deviation to either side may not have much of an impact, but a large deviation will change the projections drastically. While doing all this my focus was on seeing if the incumbent party the DMK would be able to hold on or not. The reason is, when there is a third player there is a natural slight edge for the incumbent. When in doubt about a seat I gave it to the DMK alliance. The numbers I arrived at are as follows: 1.DMK Alliance: 100-115 2.AIADMK Alliance: 118-133 3.TVK: 0-3 Could this be totally off the mark? Of course it can. If TVK takes much more of the AIADMK vote then the situation can reverse and the DMK Alliance could secure a majority. Also if AIADMK can hold its dominance in the Kongu belt and if the PMK pulls its weight in the Vanniyar belt and if the allies of the DMK implode (Cong, DMDK, VCK), it could push AIADMK+ higher. For the DMK alliance to win Vijay has to take a lion's share of his votes from the AIADMK alliance and a low proportion of votes from the DMK alliance. My gut feel is that there seems to be a slight edge for the AIADMK alliance. However, I do not see a total sweep for either alliance unless Vijay takes his votes totally from one side and wrecks the other side. I do not know as yet what the Exit Polls are going to say tomorrow. Once I get further inputs will update. PS: The TVK factor has made predicting this election the toughest one in recent times. There is more than a fair chance I could be getting this wrong. #tamilnadulegislativeassemblyelection2026 #TamilNaduElections2026 #TNElections2026 #tnelection

I really pity @actorvijay for his immature comments on Thiru @EPSTamilNadu It was Edapadiyar who toured the entire state covering all the constituencies. He was amazing in his approach. Thiru @mkstalin took it upon himself to campaign for his candidates knowing pretty well that he is facing huge anti-incumbency. Thiru @Seeman4TN really worked hard in spite of knowing well that NTK is not going to win anywhere With massive support pouring from Youth who have 0️⃣ understanding of politics this Tharkuri Joseph Vijay hardly stepped out for campaigning for his candidates. You would get lots of votes & win some seats but you are not a worthy politician. You are just a Dummy Piece - Vijay. A man who is not loyal to his parents, wife & children would never be loyal to his own fans, cadres & supporters.

Vijay could have chosen the comfort of his caravan. He chose courage instead. A courage born out of conscience. The courage to stand up to an entrenched behemoth, look it in the eye and say enough is enough. To say dynasty is not democracy. If you felt that indescribable something in your heart when Vijay stood up, that flicker is hope. The hope that you don't need a tungsten sun for a brighter dawn. The hope that no mother will have to wait with bated breath for her daughter to return home safely. The hope that no father will fear that his son will become a junkie in school. The hope that a journalist can speak his mind, without literal shit being dropped in his home. Some will call you are a crazed fan. They will frame stranglehold on power as legacy and continuity. They will talk about regional pride, while a middleman quietly siphons his commission. They will claim Vijay is an outsider, a newbie who doesn't know governance or politics. Yes , he's an outsider to THEIR rotten politics of patronage, pliable media and power abuse. That's his strength. That's why millions of nanbas and nanbis trust him. The dream of a better day is not empty fantasy or fandom. It's a choice, made at the cusp of history. And that choice begins with the courage to make it. Vijay stood up when it mattered. Now it's people's turn.

How did the two writers and The Hindu's editorial team get a brand name—a fairly popular one, at that—so comprehensively wrong? At what stage did 'Milky Mist' become 'Misty Milk'? I suppose a corrigendum is awaited in tomorrow's edition.

Just realised that the @ndtv scoop is not a scoop after all. So @actorvijay deigned to speak off camera to their journalists and agreed to pose for photos with them. That is a scoop? Wow. A politician who will not even give an interview on camera??? Even Modi gives scripted interviews with tough questions like "what is your favourite food?" If people still want to vote for this gent they must be delusional. God help Tamil Nadu.

Thank you to all the readers and everyone on X who read, shared and spoke about the story on the unfairness in ticket booking at Tholkappia Poonga (Adyar Eco Park). On a day when the news space was dominated by largely insignificant political noise - updates that mostly benefit politicians, not people - this story managed to punch above its weight in the online space. We are often told what the “important news of the day” is supposed to be, but when people-centric stories like this somehow find space and travel far, it throws up a simple answer: what actually matters as news to people. Grateful for the support - it’s a reminder that reporting on everyday, people-first issues is non-negotiable. For those who are yet to read it: timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/chennai/t…

BJP+ swept the #BMCElections2026 in the morning and afternoon. Now they are narrowly ahead of SSUBT+. Have been speaking for years about how the media cooks up leads in the morning on counting days. Today is another such example. This is fraud plain and simple. You cannot have leads in places where counting had not started. Today that was what we saw.. The @ECISVEEP is useless but maybe a PIL is worth it to stop this fakery.

Landed in Chennai and decided on a lark to go to the Thuglak Annual Day (aandu vizha) and asked Google search "Thuglak aandu vizha 2026 location" and the AI interjected and told me it was the Music Academy, Chennai. Meanwhile, my smarter colleague had called around (he won't trust AI on these matters!) and found out it was Narada Gana Sabha. I told the AI "wrong info, check again" and this time it comes back, corrects itself and gives me Narada Gana Sabha. Apparently it is usually at the Music Academy but changed this year. N = 1 is a hard problem for statistics 🤷

Unable to counter arguments with arguments, the #DMK has resorted to violence during a television debate. I strongly condemn this murderous assault unleashed by DMK's goons on me and my Youth Wing brothers who stepped in to protect me. This marks the absolute nadir of law and order. The attempted attack took place at a private television channel’s office in Egmore, immediately after the debate, right in the presence of MP Thiru.@ThangaTamilselv and the police. It is shocking that the goons openly told the police, 'We are cutting the power for 10 minutes, you leave, we will take care of it,' before launching the attack. Exactly as threatened, the power was disconnected for 10 minutes, and this violence was orchestrated according to plan. This attack, executed with the complete complicity of the police, is a war waged against Freedom of Expression. DMK’s trend of practicing politics by unleashing goons is a threat to democracy. This incompetent government must answer for the blood shed by our injured Youth Wing members. #DMKFails

As Sridhar Vembu’s counsel, I can add some facts missing from the article. The order was made 1 year ago on an emergency application by his wife, meaning we had little time to response to the outrageously false allegations she made against Sridhar. The judge in California was completely misled by the wife’s attoney, who is not even licensed to practice law in California and has inserted himself into this case from New York even though there are no New York issues. Sridhar offered his wife 50% of his shares in ZCPL, but to this day she has refused to accept the stock. Instead, she has claimed that Sridhar is trying to cheat her in the divorce. This makes no sense as she could take her half of the shares now and Sridhar has already transferred his interest in the family home to her. Despite acting honorably during this process, the judge was fooled into making an order that Sridhar post a $1.7 billion bond for the wife’s supposed protection. There is no legal authority for such an order. A subsequent judge acknowledged that the amount seemed absurd. Sridhar was able to borrow up to $150 million against his shares which was the extent of his ability to comply but the wife would not accept the money. This was a waste of time by the wife as she has nothing to show for her effort to disparage Sridhar. Her attorney misled the court and may be misleading her too about reality, while he has billed millions of dollars of fees. This has nothing to do with alimony by the way, as the wife has not even sought an order for support. Sridhar is in full compliance with all lawful orders of the California. The $1.7 billion bond order is invalid, cannot be complied with, and is on appeal. The receivership order has been stayed on appeal. So, this old news about an order that should never have been made. I am honored to represent Sridhar and to have been given the opportunity to know such a wonderful person. This case does not define him and mirrors the bad actions of his wife and her New York attorney.

Rahul Gandhi will prove 100 times more impactful than Narendra Modi as Prime Minister of India. He is educated. He is experienced. He listens to people. He accepts criticism. He believes in Constitution. He stands for unity and justice. He talks about jobs education and dignity.

Today completes 50 years since that momentous day: December 15, 1975. It was the day I was arrested after conducting a Satyagraha at Jaihindpuram, Madurai, representing Jayaprakash Narayan’s People’s Action Committee. This was our heroic fight against the dictator Indira Gandhi, who had shrouded India in darkness for 21 months during the Emergency. The key individuals arrested with me were: Mohan (then an Engineering student, now a retired Chief Engineer), my friend Sreedhar, RSS leader Harihara Gopalan, and Madurai Veeran. This was a golden opportunity to light a lamp in a dark India—a day forever etched in my heart. Before the arrest, we received blessings from my sister, Indira. We then walked 3 km to the Jaihindpuram junction, carrying 50 anti-Emergency pamphlets. To signify we were Satyagrahis, we put the garlands on ourselves. To prevent the police from stopping the protest instantly, we emerged one by one from the four directions, at 15-minute intervals. We distributed pamphlets and shouted slogans like “Down with the Emergency! Long Live Democracy!” We were arrested and continued shouting slogans from inside the police van all the way to Andalpuram Station. This struggle against Indira Gandhi's tyrannical Emergency rule was our Second War of Independence. If today’s generation were to study this period, they would realize the Congress party is fundamentally unfit to be in politics. ...From the memories, SR SEKHAR State Treasurer BJP Tamilnadu @narendramodi @PMOIndia @narendramodi_in @themodistory @NaMoInTamil @AmitShah @HMOIndia @JPNadda @NitinNabin @blsanthosh @nsitharaman @DrLMurugan @VPIndia @PiyushGoyal @arjunrammeghwal @mohol_murlidhar @MenonArvindBJP @ReddySudhakar21 @tarunchughbjp @NainarBJP @annamalai_k @DrTamilisai4BJP @VanathiBJP @oreynaadunews @v_bharatham @TamilJanamNews
