There’s been a lot of discussion recently about tokenized deposits (such as JPMorgan’s JPM Coin, where tokens backed by deposits at JPMorgan can be used within the JPMorgan ecosystem), and we are likely to see several banks launch trials of this concept in the coming year. But this goes a very large step further – EUR CoinVertible is issued by a regulated bank, and can be used outside of the SocGen network. It's good news, a step toward a more efficient financial marketplace, and it shows that European finance – typically conservative – can embrace innovation given regulatory support. Demand for euro-backed stablecoins is low for now, and this token may not generate much interest since there’s not as yet much demand. But that will change, and the market will benefit from more choice. Hats off to SocGen for being first.
