I talk politics and comic books, so half of you will be bored. Truth, Justice, and the American Way. Sir/Mister. Programmer.

I received a few comics for Christmas and was intrigued. At some point we made a trip to the mall (could drive yet so had to wait for mom or dad to go).
Found the spinner rack at Walden books and picked up these three and I was hooked. It also helped I got in at the right time. All sorts of good things were happening at that time.

Nothing beats the feeling of that first comic book. 💭
What was the "origin story" for your collection?
I want to hear what officially got you into the hobby! 💥

Amazon is ending support for older Kindle models starting May 20, 2026
You cannot purchase, borrow, or download new books directly from the Kindle Store on the device
American says her Kindle still works fine and because of this she’ll no longer be able to sue the device that she paid for, has been using, and buys books on
“Amazon said Capitalism at its finest will give you 20% off of a new one if you wanna purchase a new one. But your old one that works perfectly fine, no longer, this has me livid. It is so wasteful and I, I can't believe it. It's like I don't wanna have to purchase a new one.”
This change effects Kindles released in 2012 or earlier
Americans are saying this planned obsolescence and they’re being forced to buy new ones they don’t need

@unlimited_ls You're going to jail, you'll be out in time for Memorial Day.
Correction, make that Halloween.

She now faces charges including burglary, escape, resisting arrest, trespassing, and criminal mischief

Those tankers everyone is celebrating aren’t coming here for crude oil.
They’re coming for diesel, jet fuel, and gasoline — refined products — and that distinction is everything.
US distillate inventories dropped another 2.1 million barrels just last week.
They’re already 3% below the five-year average. We are not flush. We are depleted.
Meanwhile US refined product exports hit 6.3 million barrels/day in January — up ~10% from a year ago, near record highs. Diesel led the increase. More going to Europe. Less staying here.

“Take your mask off, you wanker.”
This is one of the best clips ever recorded.
A lone Englishman calmly stands firm against a mob of masked protesters at London’s Al Quds Day march.
Zero fear.
"Go back to where you came from Abdul"
“You have no business here. This is England.”
Proudly English while they hide their faces. Police hover nearby, but he holds the line alone.
One native Brit saying what millions feel.

@averagemoneymd No wrong decision here, just a decision . If it gives you better comfort putting it toward the loan then that's what you do. A bad decision would be getting two new cars and installing a pool, this is just a good financial decision that give you peace of mind. Good job

Last month, we received a family gift of $260,000.
We debated a lot and ultimately decided for a few reasons to drop it all on our 3.75% mortgage.
Our mortgage went from $750k --> $490k
We recognize we could have made much more investing, but it felt secure to take a little risk off the table. Mortgage calculator shows this will save us $285k in interest.
We then recasted our mortgage and our payment dropped from ~$3,800 to ~$2,400.
A little bit closer to freedom.

@UziCryptoo This is why banks and CUs may still enforce a one week vacation for each employee every year.

A single accountant stole $53 million from her employer over 20 years and nobody noticed
Rita Crundwell was the comptroller of Dixon, Illinois with a population of 15,000
She opened a secret bank account called “Reserve Sewer Capital Development Account”
For two decades she transferred city funds into it while filing fake invoices
She used the money to become the most successful quarter horse breeder in America
Owned 400 horses, multiple farms, a custom bus, and a $2.1 million motorhome
She won the World Championship in quarter horse breeding four times while actively robbing a small town
Only got caught because a substitute accountant covered her desk while she was on vacation
The city had been cutting firefighter jobs and road repairs for years while this was happening
$53 million. One woman. 20 years. One vacation.

@MorePerfectUS Can you give us more context. What part is unbelievable?

@robertoblake @RexhaRexhaRexha Thank you. This is exactly what I needed to know.
English

@genrlzod @RexhaRexhaRexha You’re taxed on the sale as well. And yes you still may come out ahead. But with the opportunity cost and trade offs you could have made far more in the markets.
Beyond that you can still loose if the value went down like in 2008…

Graham Stephan reveals why he is SELLING ALL OF HIS REAL ESTATE
"My properties in Los Angeles do not make a lot of money"
"Most people have this idea of these multimillion dollar plots of land by the beach that just collect massive checks every month, but in reality, the truth couldn't be further from that"
"Once you account for property taxes, insurance, repairs, maintenance, property management expenses, city registration fees, & other miscellaneous costs, my total cash flow works out to be 4-5% ... that's it ... for the time, risk and headaches it is just not worth it..."
"You know what else pays 4-5%? Risk free treasuries, Municipal Bonds, Savings accounts, Money Market funds, and with those I'm not subject to endless restrictions, phone calls, emails, and constant negotiations"

@TheEXECUTlONER_ They need to keep in mind this is a temporary thing. in less than 10 years these kids will be off doing other things and the road will be empty. Go outside and enjoy the atmosphere. It makes the day more pleasant.
English

This woman lives on a culdesac where there are seven houses. Six of the seven neighbors are close and all their kids play outside together.
The one neighbor can’t stand it.
So, the rest of them decided to buy a basketball hoop and put it in the street to give the kids even more to do. 😂
I love seeing kids outside playing in my neighborhood.
Would this bother you if every day you came home there were kids playing outside on your street?
