The answer is most likely that they are teenagers who are at their first job and really don't need the money. They are building skills to get better jobs in the future.

Am I the only one who still views minimum wage as gas money for your car and movie tickets for you and your date while you gain work experience in high school or at the bookstore in college?

$7.25 an hour is about $14,000 a year. No one can survive on that. People can barely survive on double that. We raised the minimum wage in Illinois. It's long overdue everywhere else.

@antineocon911 @dantypo Right but you need to look at more than JUST the minimum wage. In the 70s about 15-20% of workers were working at minimum wage. Currently less than 1% of workers are at minimum wage. This means while minimum wage hasn't changed people are still getting more money.

@dantypo My point is that the minimum wage hasn't gone up in 17 years. Your daughter can fill her tank because she's paid twice the fed min wage. Why should a minimum wage employee in 2026 get paid significantly less than one in 2007, because that's the reality in terms of buying power.

Marxists are an odd bunch. The empirical evidence shows that Marxism, at scale, in 100% of cases, either collapses in on itself or verges into quasi-fascism. In other words, it has literally never worked.
