Just spent ~$10 on Claude Sonnet 3.5 to convert 570 pages of poorly scanned book into markdown: Can be as cheap as $1 if I use Sonnet Haiku but with lower quality. Worthy to create a product?

Cracking Screen Studio is as easy as adding „return true” in one place in the app bundle. I’m aware there are cracks out there. After a bit of research I learned it would be extremely complicated to secure it well. And then someone would crack it anyways. We decided to not fight that battle.

I talked to Paddle support. They require your website to be live on the main domain. You can't just deploy it on Vercel and send them a preview link for review. The verification process currently takes 4-7 days.

WordPress and WP engine went into full fight mode like Johny and Ember: treats, blackmailing, screenshots of sms…the court case is on. CEO Of WordPress threatened to ruin the WP Engine boss’s career and life if she didn’t take their offer. 9. Pieter Levels adopted Tate’s slogan, throwing “hit the gym” and “you look insecure” at other indie makers. 10. Bolt(from stackblitz) has made software developers obsolete. Most devs turned on the denial. But the end is near. (btw, remember Devin? They got $175M in funding for a demo vid and disappeared) 11. Indie hackers started 536 product hunt clones, promising to release in a few days. None were released. 12. PearAI and YC apologized to Continue. All friends now. But all the founders who failed to enter YC now saying “I didn’t even wanna get there, look how bad it is”. 13. No week without a viral “Vercel pricing is insane.” Cmon guys, it’s a for-profit biz, they charge what the fu*k they want. If I was their CEO, I'd ban indie makers. @DesignerBran The conversation is what builds authority. But no, the majority do it because of the initial traffic boost they get. I've never heard a single customer say they went with a product because it had a "Product of the Day" badge on their website.

I'm all for creating a better ProductHunt alternative, especially after the recent drama. But what a lot of these attempts fail to understand is that ProductHunt isn't just a directory of products. Sure, you can create that over a weekend, but the real value of ProductHunt is (or at least used to be) the conversation around these products. Nobody cares about listing their product next to 1000 other products and having to spam their friends to get more upvotes. Most do it because they want to put their product in front of a new audience, get feedback, and start a conversation around it. If you want to create a platform to replace ProductHunt, you have to start by solving the conversation problem. This is the real value that ProductHunt provides. Not the directory of products. The same goes for a lot of other "over the weekend" attempts for other platforms and products. What you see on the surface level and what you think you can build over the weekend is usually not the real value.
