I think your primary issue is a legitimate one. But I still have serious concerns about the manner in which sanctuary states and cities make even a more targeted approach more difficult. That’s not to say that their non-cooperation explains everything or excuses abuse and sloppiness on ICE’s behalf. However, it’s making adversaries out of law-enforcement agencies that would be a whole lot more effective together. It really muddies the waters.

@gwcbailey @DeseretStone As to your general point, my primary issue is one of focus and methods: focus in the sense that ICE is not focusing on violent criminals, but instead ramping up to a mass deportation push; and methods in the way they seem to get caught doing lots of unconstitutional/cruel stuff.

Scott, do you have any stats that demonstrate ICE's abuse of power as opposed to its actions under other administrations. I'm really willing to believe things are worse, particularly given the newness of so many agents.
However, this debate has become so heated with people taking extreme stances (i.e., ICE agents are f*scists vs. ICE agents are patriots to be defended at all costs). Admittedly, I lean towards defending ICE (not the abuses you listed, which are so horrible) because the scale of the problem they're trying to resolve is enormous and immigration enforcement is as legitimate as other areas of law enforcement. And I think sanctuary states/cities have made their task so much more difficult. These governments have created an environment in which terrible things are bound to happen.

@DeseretStone I oppose the policy of having ICE swarming towns, breaking down doors without warrants, arresting US citizens, detaining children alone, having undertrained and overstimulated agents pepper spraying people who are exercising their First Amendment rights, etc.
We deserve better.
