@ReddDrift @BobMurphyEcon @x____mas Actually, I think this is an interesting twist. I am a blue voter, as I am willing to risk my life to save others. I would vote red if I controlled 100 people, as I am not willing to risk killing others.

To show this isn’t altruism versus selfishness: suppose parents are required to push the button on behalf of their children who are 5 or younger. Which button do you push on their behalf?
Tim Urban@waitbutwhy

Everyone in the world has to take a private vote by pressing a red or blue button. If more than 50% of people press the blue button, everyone survives. If less than 50% of people press the blue button, only people who pressed the red button survive. Which button would you press?

@G0ffThew Why chose blue at all when you can avoid the chance of dying entirely by just pressing red. At that point im just going to assume you're suicidal and label it a "skill issue" bluecucks wont even be there to mald about it

The calculus to press red is, to put it kindly, short-sighted idiot math. It begins and ends with “what input gives me the best odds of living” with no regard for what the world you’d be living in - where everyone you can trust is dead and everyone else knows it - would look like

@_resolut @G0ffThew I am willing to risk my life to save those that pick blue. I think it is more an altruism/self interest question, given that there are other people that think like me, and so a world where 100% pick red is not going to happen.

People are getting one shotted by this non-dilemma. The only reason you pick blue is to save retards who picked blue. If you think for 2 seconds, the game theory answer is to simply pick red. Given imperfect knowledge of the situation, you should pick red, as it’s your only guaranteed chance at survival. Seems like a bunch of people want to make an excuse to die. People don’t have that dog in them anymore.

@savblazkowicz @dolled0parts Can't you just order adrenochrome? Like it has been synthesized since the 1950s, and it isn't a controlled substance, and a quick google gave me several companies that will ship it to me.

Teenagers are sharing photos of their AP U.S. Government textbooks, and the sheer amount of indoctrination is wildly disturbing. Apparently, Barack Obama is ideologically a right wing authoritarian. Hillary Clinton and George W Bush are entirely indistinguishable politically. Donald Trump is of course virtually the same as Hitler. @tedcruz is apparently more radically authoritarian than Fidel Castro AND Joseph Stalin..??!!?? @Linda_McMahon — can we expedite some major changes to American public education?

@theisabelb I never even had a chart like this, which is the way it should be. We should be talking about their policies and actions, and NOT put them on some stupid grid.....based upon WHAT, I'd like to know. This is so subjective.

@theisabelb That's wild. It's the most subjective thing according to whatever criteria they made up. Student assignment should be: Estimate how vaccinated this person was and what criteria they emphasized most in deciding this.

@jmehsood86 @NathanJRobinson Yes, IHL applies even if one side in a conflict does not adhere. "The other side broke IHL" is not a defense from war crimes. If you suspect a POW of personally committing war crimes (not just being part of a force that does) they still have POW status and must have a fair trial

Let's be clear at the outset: If Iran holds a US pilot, that person is a prisoner of war, not a "hostage." The terminology matters and we should insist that the media use the correct language for the situation.

@jmehsood86 @NathanJRobinson International humanitarian law was deliberately written to apply in all armed conflict, and doesn't need a declaration of war. As long as the airman is in uniform, they would be a POW.

@gophilsbaby @GoodVibePolitik There doesn't need to be an official declaration of war for international humanitarian law (IHL) to apply. As long as the airman is in uniform, IHL says he should be treated as a POW.

@LarrryC1 @JossSheldon Sorry I'm not speaking for all Europeans. I mean that is the average view of establishment Europeans in power, which is why they aren't supporting the war. They seem to think that Iran was upholding their obligations under the nuclear deal until Trump pulled out

@h00py_ @JossSheldon First of all, you don't speak for all Europeans, just as my opinion doesn't reflect all Americans. Secondly, the IAEA said Iran wasn't allowing complete inspections. Iran lied about its maximum missile ranges (hello Europe), do you think they were lying about 60% enrichment?

American forces didn't help British troops in the Falkland Isles, Northern Ireland or Sierra Leone. British forces didn't support the USA in the Philippines, Vietnam, Cambodia or Loas. Neither country has any divine right to expect support from the other. Trump is off his rocker.

@LarrryC1 @JossSheldon The European perspective is that they were satisfied that the Iran Nuclear Deal was preventing a nuclear Iran until Trump unilaterally removed the US, and that by killing the anti-nuclear Ali Khamenei and repeatedly bombing Iran, it makes Iran more likely to pursue nukes
