It is the third anniversary of one of the more deadliest and impactful tornadoes in modern time. The Rolling Fork, MS tornado on 3/24/23 took the lives of 17 and caused somewhere near $100 million in damages. My heart goes out to all affected.

A NWS storm survey has confirmed an EF-2 tornado in Starke County, IN west of Knox. This tornado is associated with the same parent supercell that spawned the Kankakee, IL-Lake Village, IN EF-3 tornado and the Wheatfield, IN EF-1 tornado on the evening of March 10th.

The Union City, MI preliminary EF-3 tornado with max wind speeds of 160 mph is the earliest EF-3+ tornado on record in the calendar year for Michigan. It is also the strongest tornado to occur in Michigan since an F4 struck Kalamazoo and Eaton Counties on April 2, 1977.

NWS Grand Rapids has confirmed an EF-0 tornado in Calhoun County, MI. That makes 4 total confirmed tornadoes from the same parent supercell that also dropped tornadoes in Edwardsburg (TBD), Three Rivers (preliminary EF-2), and Union City (preliminary EF-3).

I will declare a state of emergency for Branch, Cass, and St. Joseph counties following the severe weather. We’re working with emergency teams to monitor the situation and coordinate resources for those impacted. My heart is with the families who lost loved ones or were injured.
