Obsidian is a $350M company for a note taking app built by 3 engineers working remotely No other time in history was something like this possible What a wonderful time to be building a company
kepano@kepano

Obsidian is weird: - 7 full-time employees - ~1 million users per employee - fully remote - 1 in-person meetup per year - no scheduled meetings - no stand-ups - deep focus is prioritized - our manifesto guides our product What works for us may not work for you.

😂 L'ironie absolue.
Gergely Orosz@GergelyOrosz

This is either brilliant or scary: Anthropic accidentally leaked the TS source code of Claude Code (which is closed source). Repos sharing the source are taken down with DMCA. BUT this repo rewrote the code using Python, and so it violates no copyright & cannot be taken down!

Google just killed the document extraction industry. LangExtract: Open-source. Free. Better than $50K enterprise tools. What it does: → Extracts structured data from unstructured text → Maps EVERY entity to its exact source location → Handles 100+ page documents with high recall → Generates interactive HTML for verification → Works with Gemini, Ollama, local models What it replaces: → Regex pattern matching → Custom NER pipelines → Expensive extraction APIs → Manual data entry Define your task with a few examples. Point it at any document. Get structured, verifiable results. No fine-tuning. No complex setup. Clinical notes, legal docs, financial reports, same library. This is what open-source from Google looks like.

It might be permanent unless Cursor makes a huge shift culturally. The biggest issue with Cursor is that it feels like they have no direction. They're just out there trying shit. Initially, it was refreshing because they were at the edge and there wasn't great competition. But now it feels like thrash (and the product tends to be pretty buggy). On the other hand, Claude Code feels like a product with a clear direction, constantly improving, but not thrashing the user. Unless Cursor makes some significant cultural changes that are behind this problem, it won't change. This isn't a technical capability problem, so much as it is a cultural, how do you get shit done at your company problem. I suspect Cursor will stagnate their revenue if this continues, and eventually churn more and more users. They are cheaper than Claude Code, so they might take the lower end market. Super bullish on Anthropic.

Every single dev and product team I speak to in the last 30 days has moved from Cursor to Claude Code. 1. Is this permanent? 2. If so, what happens to Cursor?

@GayaniFigma Hey Gayani - Thanks for the response on this. This was happening in the desktop app. I just tried it and it seems to be working fine now!

@TheJFreakinC @grok @grok does ICE have to charge you legally when they detain you? How would habeas corpus be filed if the US citizen isn’t even charged?

By far the most disturbing ICE video I’ve seen from Evanston, IL today. An ICE agent points his gun at unarmed citizens. Twice. Then, he goes around the SUV, drops to his knees, and presses his full weight onto a man’s back. Moments later, that same man’s head is beaten into the pavement while the agent holds his head down. When they finally pull him up, his face is swollen and dazed… clearly concussed… and then they slam his head into the SUV and pin it there with their shoulder. You can’t watch this and call it law enforcement. This is excessive force and criminal assault.

@TheJFreakinC @grok @TheJFreakinC this is the crux of the terror ICE agents are driving. You can’t even prove your citizenship unless you carry physical copies of documents that’s reasonably no one carries. Therefore if you “look” like an immigrant then you can be questioned and detained!

I code 7-8 hours with AI every day. 6 days of the week. I tested all prominent tools in AI tech. - v0 - Cursor - Bolt .new - Replit Agent - Gptengineer - Windsurf IDE Here's my latest Ranking: Most improved project in 14 days: Bolt. new - 8/10 I am impressed by the output quality of bolt. Just 2 weeks back it felt half baked. Now it is shaping into something good. Great for coding Landing pages and micro saas (4-5 pages) Most Versatile Project: Replit Agent - 7/10 After Replit introduced React + Vite. It is now building applications with cool UI. Still a bit slow. A bit over complicated BUT moving in right direction. I coded a modern landing page in 1 shot that i designed in v0. Best in their domain: Cursor - For coding V0 - For frontend design Half baked projects: Windsurf IDE - 4/10 Disappointed with the output. It was breaking after 5th step every time. Still need improvement: GPTengineer - 4/10 Cool idea but competition is now super tough. Bolt is moving at crazy pace. v0 improved context with context caching. GPTengineer is still implementing 1 edit in one message. Here's my tech stack as of today. I use ChatGPT search for research I use o1 model for documentation I use v0 for frontend design I use claude AI for coding brain I use cursor for code implementation I use replit to deploy projects I feel like I can build any web app now with this stack in 5-7 days. I'll be sharing some cool experiments in coming days. Stay tuned.

@nikillinit @ellenjdasilva l think you’re right about their model not working in the US. Also, I think you’d expect much lower revenues. In the UK most people think of having an Indian for lunch/dinner and can have it 2x/3x a week. I haven’t observed this to be true in the US unless you’re from South Asia.

@ellenjdasilva i actually think their model might not work here potentially - the rent in NY to get the size of place they have in the UK would be preposterously high

Dishoom made nearly $150M in revenue in 2023, though only about ~$10.3M in operating profit pretty impressive considering how consistent the quality is as they've scaled (11 locations now) also the founders are Harvard Business school grads and did bain/investment banking lol
