@TimothyDSnyder @pass_blue For a moment, i feared you had been cured of your Putin obsession and might even finally drop a word about Israel when talking about Iran war. But phew… had to wait to slide #7 to finally come across Putin. Thank goodness. Won’t hold my breath though for Israel.

Given Trump’s Easter threats to carry out new war crimes in Iran, we should think one or two steps ahead about a coup attempt connected to the war. And then deter it. (1/17)

Long before October 7th :: Israeli forces made Palestinian fishermen jump in the water, blew up their boat, then made them count to 100 out loud, over and over again, as they were treading water. Until they drowned. Said by Miko Peled, son of an Israeli general, in his book, The General's son. Chapter 13 (Audiobook version).

My theory is people like Arsen grow up learning that “terrorist” is an uber-category that trumps all other considerations. In this alter-Land there are “people” on one hand and “terrorists” on the other. When childhood programming meets real world the latter just does not compute

💢 An Israeli strike in Ain Saadeh Hills, a hillside suburb northeast of Beirut, on Sunday killed Pierre Moawad, a Christian political figure affiliated with the Lebanese Forces party, along with his wife. Moawad was a local Lebanese Forces head for Yahchouch, a mountain town in the Keserwan region further north. The party is a right-wing Christian faction known for its anti-Hezbollah stance and past collaboration with Israel. According to L’Orient-Le Jour sources, the intended target may have been someone living on the floor above the Moawad family. The building’s owner said the unit had been vacant for some time.

Islam Derangement Syndrome is a real thing. It is not just the Randy Fines, Tommy Robinsons, and Laura Loomers. It is, along with a passionate embrace of Zionism and Israel, also particularly pronounced among some Middle East immigrants in the West who are desperate to fit in, find acceptance, and build careers. Their formula consists of trashing everything about their home countries, spewing hate and bigotry against their former societies, and validating and encouraging one prejudice after another, typically with fabricated stories they claim are drawn from personal experience. They apparently consider this their ticket to success. In this particular instance it is common, uncontested knowledge that multiple Christian churches claim competing rights in Jerusalem's Church of the Holy Sepulchre. The so-called "Status Quo Agreements" that have been much discussed in recent years with respect to Jerusalem's Haram al-Sharif and the Al-Aqsa Mosque, were in fact initially formulated by the Ottoman authorities during the eighteenth century to address escalating disputes and regulate competing claims between rival Christian denominations with respect to Christian holy sites in Jerusalem and Bethlehem. The Ottoman regulations were later ratified by the European powers at the 1878 Congress of Berlin, giving them the status of an international treaty, and which also extended to Muslim and Jewish holy sites. A key provision of the Status Quo Agreement is that no existing arrangements can be altered without the unanimous consent of all invested parties. The Status Quo Agreement had nothing to do with the clash of civilizations so beloved of Rancid Rachid and his band of merry morons. Nor did it have anything to do with any Muslim jihad against Christianity. Quite the opposite. The same principle explains why, since the twelfth century, two Muslim families, the Joudehs and Nusaibehs, have been entrusted with the key and the operation of the doors to Jerusalem's Church of the Holy Sepulchre. The Church of the Holy Sepulchre is of course a particularly sacred Christian church, in which every Christian denomination, quite understandably, fiercely protects its rights, privileges, and claims. The role played by the Joudehs and Nusseibehs in this matter is hardly the first instance in history where responsibility for something considered vital by competing parties is entrusted to one with no skin in the game. Yet in Rachid's telling, this is actually all part of a diabolical Muslim plot to destroy Christianity and uproot it from the land in which it originated. His proof? He doesn't believe eight centuries of history, and finds reality insufficiently convincing. During these eight centuries, no Christian denomination has taken up Rachid's battle cry and renounced or objected to these arrangements. Quite the contrary. If Rachid is going to dismiss this with "dhimmi this, dhimmi that , dhimmi dhimmi everywhere", the reality is also that no foreign church has demanded the Joudehs and Nusseibehs be relieved of their duties. Not during the British Mandate, nor even after Israel - which Rachid apparently considers to be the world's only genuinely Christian state - occupied the Old City of Jerusalem in 1967. Quite the contrary. On a related not Rachid also, yet again, gets very basic history wrong. It was not the Christian leaders who entrusted the Joudehs and Nusseibehs with the duties they have faithfully discharged for nearly a millennium. Rather, they were appointed by Saladin to ensure that no denomination would be able to control access to the Church and lord it over the others. For Rachid, Easter is just another opportunity to promote ignorance, hate, and ingratitude.
Brother Rachid الأخ رشيد@BrotherRasheed

Do you actually buy this story? We’re told that because Christians had internal disputes, they handed the keys of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre to a Muslim family. Think about that for a second. They couldn’t resolve their own disagreements, but they could agree to surrender control of their holiest site? And what does that solve, exactly? Does giving the key end their disputes? Of course not. This isn’t about conflict resolution. It’s about control. Holding the key is a statement of authority: you don’t even open your most sacred church without us. That’s not neutrality. That’s dominance dressed up as “tradition.” Your holiest place on earth, and you need someone outside your faith to unlock the door? What does that say about sovereignty? About ownership? Call it what it is. Not a noble compromise, not a clever solution. A symbol of subordination that’s been repackaged as coexistence in a fabricated narrative.
