When Jawaharlal Nehru gave PoK to Pakistan. Sardar Patel had gone to the All India Radio station to stop this announcement. But Jawaharlal Nehru’s system had locked the doors of the radio station so that Patel Sahib could not enter #RemembringNehru

What Mamata Banerjee couldn’t do in 15 years, Suvendu Adhikari and the BJP government have delivered in just 15 days. 🚇 RVNL has successfully completed the long-delayed girder launching work at the Chingrighata crossing section of Kolkata Metro’s Orange Line, ahead of schedule. This 366-metre missing link is critical for completing the New Garia-Airport Metro corridor, which will connect Kolkata’s southern suburbs with the IT hub in Sector V. Why was this project stalled for years? Because the Mamata Banerjee government repeatedly denied permission for traffic diversion. RVNL had only sought night traffic blockades over two successive weekends to complete the work. The moment the political obstruction ended, the work moved at speed. For years, Bengal was told delays were “technical”. Turns out, the biggest technical problem was the TMC government itself.

Journalist: You have iPhone. But you are still living in slums. Why don't you live in a better place and pay rent? Abdul: My life, my choice. Why should we pay rent when we can build Jhuggi wherever we want? This is the mentality of Abduls living in illegal slums. I have also seen Jhuggis with ACs. You work hard and pay taxes to buy a 2BHK flat and these people build a jhuggi wherever they want.

This is 🎶 for so many "The first and foremost aim for BEST’s revival is to increase the fleet size… " @AshwiniBhide Perhaps for the first time, we have a @mybmc Commissioner, who recently built @MumbaiMetro3 and now also is head of @myBESTBus, acknowledging Mumbai needs 10,000 buses. We need bus manufacturers to step up to increase production of modern, low floor, AC, buses of all sizes - 12m, 9m and 7m. This should be a national priority to meet the demands for more buses in all our cities. @anandmahindra @switchmobilitye @MoHUA_India @BKCmoves @kumarmanish9 @doublethebus @WRIIndia @walkingproject

@centerofright People use dictatorships very loosely. What they are looking for is rule based system implemented ruthlessly and without any favouritism.

A dad took a photo of a rash on his sick toddler so the doctor could see it over video. It saved to Google Photos by itself. Two days later Google had wiped his email and phone number and reported him to the police for child abuse. The police looked into it and cleared him completely. Google still would not give his account back. That same year another dad in a different state went through the exact same thing, and the New York Times wrote about both of them in 2022. The manga artist in this post fell into the same machine. Anything you save to Google Drive or Google Photos gets scanned and turned into a kind of digital fingerprint, a short code that stands in for your file. Google compares that code against a huge list of files it has already banned, like pirated movies or known abuse photos. The newer software does not even wait for a match. It looks at a picture it has never seen and makes its own guess about whether you broke a rule. When the software flags you, the damage does not stop at one file. Your Google login is also your YouTube, your photos, sometimes your phone service, and the button you click to log into dozens of other websites. One flagged upload can lock you out of all of it at once, which is how the artist lost things that had nothing to do with Drive. This post asks how long Google has been doing this, and the numbers answer it. In a single six-month stretch, Google reported more than a million files to the national center that tracks child-abuse material and shut down about 270,000 accounts. Some of those people did nothing wrong, like the two dads. Getting back in is nearly impossible. A law from 1996 gives tech companies broad legal cover for decisions like this, and the fine print you agreed to lets Google shut your account whenever it likes. The dad the police cleared never got his back, even after officers confirmed he had done nothing wrong. Anything you upload to Google can be scanned by software with the power to shut down your whole online life on its own, before a single person ever reviews the decision. The manga artist is just the latest to find that out.

"India is overcrowded" is the most successful gaslighting campaign Indian babus ever ran on their own citizens. They underbuilt the country for forty years and convinced 1.4B Indians to blame themselves for it. Every overcrowded space you've ever queued in is a supply failure the state engineered, not a demographic accident. Five lifts in a hospital, one working. Seven railway counters, one ticketer. Toll plazas, water boards, municipal offices: built once in 1972, patched once in 1996, abandoned ever since. The only exception is airports, and even those lounges are gigafried at peak. Why did this happen? 4 reasons, none of them are "too many people." 1. Cost of capital. Rupee down 60% against the dollar in two decades. Inflation 5-7% on paper, 8-10% in reality. Risk-free rates above 7%. No rational allocator underwrites a hospital with a 30-year payback under those conditions. Capital flows into software and consumer brands; anything with a 3-5 year ROI window. Parks, ports, metros, dams, schools need multi-decade underwriting that India's macro structurally cannot support. 2. The regulatory stack is engineered to prevent construction. 50+ clearances across municipal, state, and central bodies for any large project, each with its IAS gatekeeper extracting rent. Real builders give up. The only construction happening at scale is therefore illegal, which is exactly why slums mushroom while sanctioned housing projects sit at 15% completion for a decade. 3. The corruption tax. Budget 15-20% of project cost in bakshish before pouring a single slab. Stacked on top of GST, stamp duty, capital gains, property tax, labour cess. Software shops escape it; they ship from a laptop. Anyone touching cement, steel, or land pays the surcharge in cash, off the books, with zero recourse and zero deductibility. 4. State capacity has collapsed into pure friction. GST portal crashes on filing deadlines. MCA21 is a relic. Every regulator (SEBI, RBI, IRDAI, FSSAI, BIS) optimises for CYA, never throughput. Babus paid 1990s salaries to administer 2026 complexity respond rationally by doing nothing. India's perpetual undercapacity is a capital allocation story the political class would rather you never learn. The 1.4B is a feature. The people running the country are the bug. Until cost of capital drops, the regulatory fat gets gutted, and the corruption surcharge gets squeezed out, the lifts and the counters and the hospitals will stay exactly as broken as they were when your grandfather first complained about them in 1987.

Every single place in India is just so overcrowded. - Want to go to a park? Hundreds are already there, not enough space. - Want to go to a temple? You won’t even get five minutes of peace. - Want to visit a hill station? Not a single hotel is available. - Same with Ladakh, Uttarakhand, and everywhere else. It feels like the calmest place is your own house.
