I disagree with that. Show me a plausible approach and real commitment to resolve: 1. Structural electoral disparities such as the unequal value of votes across the nation and the ineffective senate. 2. Redo the charter to remove much of the P. Trudeau changes which gave ultimate power to the judiciary, embedded Equalization and add in absolute rights for speech, property, belief, association etc. 3. Repeal the C- series of laws or gut them to remove the elements that impinge on personal rights or the oil and gas industry including firearm confiscation 4. Settle the disputes with FN's and rebuild the treaties to be more modern and fairer to those people 5. Restore immigration controls and limits back to the point system which was so effective pre-2005 or so. 6. Put real controls on government reach and spending. 7. Restore provincial rights and jurisdiction to where they were pre-P. Trudeau and remove any legislation which infringes on those rights. Then we can definitely talk... But my position is that there is no way such commitments will ever find a way to be made...which is why I support the independence of Alberta @bryttan7777
Lorrie Goldstein@sunlorrie

@bryttan7777 Because no answer will convince you. You'll dismiss even those who have long argued to better accommodate Alberta within Confederation. In your mind, you're already gone and that's fine. But you're not the audience the remain side needs to convince.

Alberta just continues to attract new investment and mega-projects. Fact is this province’s pro-growth, low tax policies combined with the repeal/changes of the majority of the disastrous Trudeau-era environment policies make Alberta incredibly attractive for business. Despite the NDP (and allies) fear-mongering, this investment will continue despite the democratic debate on Alberta’s future. Has for the last year - will continue as evidenced by this most recent announcement.
Danielle Smith@ABDanielleSmith

Alberta’s investment momentum keeps growing with another $570 million project moving forward in our province. Pembina’s new Heartland Extraction Plant project will launch in 2029. This project will strengthen Alberta’s energy industry, create jobs, expand processing capacity, and support long-term growth in the Industrial Heartland. Projects like this are happening because Alberta has the resources, workforce, infrastructure, and investment certainty companies are looking for.

I tried asking APTN what their involvement is in the CBC "prank show." Their comms director accidentally sent me an internal email stating that they were going to ignore my inquiry because I'm just a lowly Canadian citizen and not a media outlet (not that they will give a sufficient answer to the media either.) I followed up and asked who I can contact then, and they just didn't respond. It's actually crazy that these taxpayer-supported institutions think that they don't need to answer to anyone. They don't even think I deserve a modicum of an answer to my questions, even though they shouldn't be difficult to respond to.

Alberta joined Confederation in 1905, not 1867. The founding deal was already written, the rules were already set, and Alberta signed onto an existing arrangement. Then Alberta struck oil. Now Alberta wants to rewrite the constitution it inherited. Think about that dynamic for a second. You are the new hire. You did not build the company. You did not negotiate the founding partnership agreement. You showed up decades later, accepted the terms, and were handed a desk. Then you hit a massive sales streak and suddenly you want to vote like the CEO and renegotiate the partnership from scratch. The original partners, Ontario and Quebec, built the institutional framework, absorbed the risk of Confederation, and carried the country financially for generations before Alberta was even a province. The equalization system Alberta despises today exists because the founding provinces understood that regional economies are uneven, and a country only holds together if the arrangement is broadly fair over time. Alberta’s contribution to Canada is real and significant. The oil revenues that flowed east supported federal revenues and transfers for decades. That deserves acknowledgment. But “we generate revenue now” is not the same as “we designed this institution and therefore get to unilaterally change its rules.” Every new partner in any organization brings value. That does not automatically translate into governance authority that overrides the foundational agreement everyone else built and agreed to. If Alberta wants more weight in Confederation, the path is constitutional negotiation with the other partners. Not threats. Not sovereignty referendums. Not pretending the founding compact was illegitimate because it predates your membership. You want a seat at the head table? Earn it through the process that exists. You do not get to flip the table because you are currently the top salesperson.

The latest Angus Reid poll offers an interesting analysis of what the path to independence could look like. It should be a natural position for an Alberta conservative to at least entertain the notion of separation. Taking that into consideration, there is ground to be made in Calgary and rural Alberta. Effective persuasion could swing the 'Yes' side by up to 10%. What is more interesting, however, is the 9% of undecideds in the younger demographic. This group of Albertans have felt the effects of federal overreeach more than the others - from COVID restrictions to immigration issues and affordability - younger Albertans are suffering and in need of swift and effective remedies to their problems.

I was never a separatist, because I was not interested in politics, nor Canada's history. Once I looked under the hood, I could see how Canada is pieced and held together with fake and fraudulent agreements made in the dark. Alberta Independence could be the start of refederation.

Recent reports out of Mexico suggest that bilateral talks between Mexico and the U.S. are ongoing and progressing well. Meanwhile, talks between Canada and the United States have been stalled since October. Ottawa’s strategy with CUSMA is just beyond comprehension.
