Tomorrow another party will announce that X is free. All this sets a bad precedence. I am not speaking against 'a' political party. Freebie is a larger issue at play. Even the political parties that don't want to play such a card are left with no option. But to participate in the freebie race. For politicians, it is a simple game: give stuff for free, tag your name, and get votes in return. We as taxpayers will eventually pay the price in the form of higher taxes and inflation. Now, people would love to debate me: that shouldn't X segment of the population, get Y things for free? (Don't they deserve all this?) Well, this is not for YOU or ME to decide. Let data do the talking. Ask for something called as assessment report of a large policy decision-- such as giving a freebie. - What would be the cost? - What would be the impact? - And does the state budget allow this?
