@Running_Ryan @dpottzzz @neoavatara There are Texas State anti-trust laws, specifically Texas Free Enterprise and Antitrust Act of 1983. It is mentioned in the letter to the B12.

Cody Campbell and Texas Tech desperately want a seat at the big boys table. They are doing everything possible this week to get permanently banished. nytimes.com/athletic/73495…

The Cody Campbell bribes just don’t stop do they? Mean ol Big 12 Conference won’t let play our wittle QB.
Justin Williams@Williams_Justin

The office of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton sent a letter to the Big 12 on behalf of Texas Tech and obtained by @TheAthletic. It states that any sanctions against Texas Tech over the Brendan Sorsby situation would be treated as "unlawful" and would lead to legal action.

@1053thefan @1053SS WWE literally doesn’t hide the fact it’s entirely rigged & scripted, it’s a multi-billion $ sport. That fact aside, not playing Sorsby isn’t going to erase all doubt about the legitimacy of the sport. If you want something concrete, college sports gambling should be illegal.

Man college football used to be so clean and pure until Texas Tech and Brendan Sorsby ruined it. I think I’ll leave a couple of links to when college football was innocent of such toxicity. cbsnews.com/miami/news/col… espn.com/blog/ncfnation…

"It's crazy...because it's not murder, it's not beating somebody..." Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire defends his QB Brendan Sorsby, who's under fire for gambling on his own team's football games:

@SuperFrogBurner “Hey Brendan. So you’re our best QB and I know a judge overuled the NCAA and said you can play, but a whole bunch of people are butthurt about it. So yeah, we’re going to have to bench you and not let you play at all, ever. We support you though.”

@Vern_Funquist It’s against the rules, but punishment is open to interpretation. The judge for the temporary injunction determined a punishment of 2 game suspension was appropriate.

@DanWolken Hi Dan, how much money have you made from sports gambling platform sponsorships? Are you willing to help do something concrete to actually fix college football by endorsing legislation to make sports gambling in college sports illegal?

@slmandel I’m not a legal expert, but I believe the legislature (PASPA) was overturned because it dictated which states could allow sports gambling and which could not. You could support federal legislation that allow for exceptions, and isn’t as easily challenged.

@jcir454 I've made no money off it personally, but how does one do that? The Supreme Court struck down the longtime law that made sports betting illegal.

The Big 12/Brett Yormark can't let threat of lawsuits scare them from taking action against Texas Tech. You have to try something or risk alienating 15 of your 16 schools.

@NicoleAuerbach People will say that for anyone, because there’s always suspicion. If you actually want to fix the problem, then you should actually support banning sports gambling in college sports, because all of it is toxic. I suspect you and your employers wouldn’t support that though.

Say Brendan Sorsby throws two picks in the first half of a game — you’ll have people wondering if he had money on the Tech under. Every play will be scrutinized and questioned.

🎧 NEW Rushing The Field 🎧 Brendan Sorsby is eligible to play CFB this fall — after betting on his own team. Coaches and ADs are furious about it. @mrjoshuaperry and I are, too. What the Big 12/CFP/others can do about it and why this matters so much: open.spotify.com/episode/0byeJU…

@CFBKings GTFOH. Sorsby sitting this year isn’t going to prevent other players from betting in the future. You just want some sort of headline punishment to feel better about until the next scandal breaks.

“This situation is hard, it is new, and there is no perfect answer.” There’s an obvious one though… It’s one that sucks for Sorsby and Texas Tech, but he can’t play or college sports enter an entirely new world of decline where players betting is allowed.

The judge's son in law is a Tech alum. His daughter lives in Lubbock. Also, he worked in Tarrant County, Texas… which is 30 mins away from Cedar Hill high school, where Tech’s coach Joey McGuire won 3 state championships and was a coaching legend. Pretending he isn't "local" because of where he went to law school 40 years ago is LAUGHABLE
Jarrett Ramirez@JarrettDRamirez

Judge Ken Curry, who ruled on Brendan Sorsby’s case, is a University of Houston law graduate, did his undergrad at UT-Arlington and last practiced in Fort Worth. The “local judge” talk after this Sorsby ruling is simply uneducated.

Texas Tech ended up in a pretty tough spot. College Football fans are tired of all the changes, tired of seeing things erode, and desperately want structure with actual rules again. Very few things in College Football are cut-and-dry, black-and-white, but the gambling rule is one of them. This is a case, unlike some others, where it’s pretty clear and easy for most people to understand, but then also factors in the integrity and legitimacy of their favorite sport. ✅ Simple case to understand. ✅ Sorsby broke a major rule. ✅ The rule & punishment are clear. ✅ The NCAA held to the structure. 🫠 Somehow they have no say over their own rules and nothing matters if a random judge tells someone they’re good. 🤬 “WHAT?” Boiling point was reached for a lot of fans and Texas Tech got absolutely fried as people in all parts of College Football reasonably let their frustration out. Hopefully they start to quell this, end up not playing Sorsby, and get things back to normal, or it’s going to be an ugly season for everyone.
