How ironic! Our most powerful and wealthy ministers and bureaucrats urge Indian youth to be passionate about the nation and nation-building (rightly so), while their own children and immediate families seem to have little faith in India—choosing instead to leave the country and acquire foreign citizenship. What’s even more troubling is that in the same family, while the parents rule India and are duty-bound to defend the nation’s interests, their children—now citizens of foreign countries—are obligated to serve their adoptive nations. In such a scenario, there is no possibility that parents and children would ever be on the same side when India’s national interests are at stake. Would parents and children turn hostile toward each other if their respective nations were at war with each other? Or would they prioritize aiding each other over their nations? Does their personal relationship take precedence, compelling them to compromise their national interests? What’s the dynamic here?
