Cursing past me because 5 years ago I wrote some code but did not write down even 1 line of docs on how to create a build (CI would count as docs here but alas).

I just...don't want to have to install a specific app to handle 2FA or always have cell service to be able to log in... Sendgrid get a grip.

Remember how big the interconnection queue for new generators was last year? Guess what – it’s 30% bigger now! It is now TWICE the capacity of currently operating power plants. See the annual “Queued Up” report from @BerkeleyLab at emp.lbl.gov/queues. Thread!

This is frustrating - if you're homeless, what is more disruptive than having to get yourself to the CoV to get services when your family, workplace/school (or child's school) and community are all in another place.
Rebecca Bligh, City Councillor@rebeccaleebligh

Receiving the 2022 Housing Progress Update. A stunning data point that exposes a broader issue. Homelessness is a regional challenge; our solutions need to be regionally focused. Provincial partnerships to fix the inequities below 👇🏻 are needed asap. #vanpoli #homelessness

Yet again, it is wild to me that Canadian cell plans make it nearly impossible to phone a US number (The next country over) for an affordable price. For the record my current plan would charge me $1.50/minute or I can buy an add on for $7/month to get unlimited calls to the US.

lol this is true in Canada too (for both OAS, CPP and, EI) and it is MIND boggling that it doesn't piss more people off.

@ErynnBrook My god, he literally presents AI as a solution for people who can't afford to get medical care, as opposed to any number of solutions that might actually work . This is going to go /so/ well.

Any first year arts student can tell you that there’s no such thing as a creation that isn’t political, but here we are: Letting dudes who don’t understand the purpose of email and think it’s a time-suck to communicate with people create communications AI. Great plan!

Still amazes me that to get an arts degree in anything you basically have to understand how history, society and politics apply to the things we make, and yet we just let these nerds run wild without ensuring they understand the basic message of Jurassic Park.
Sam Altman@sama

there will be more challenges like bias (we don’t want ChatGPT to be pro or against any politics by default, but if you want either then it should be for you; working on this now) and people coming away unsettled from talking to a chatbot, even if they know what’s really going on

@martynschmoll @VancouverBuzzer @pladner When Agustín's family visited Vancouver in November to receive his honorary Masters from UBC they hadn't received a @VPDTrafficUnit report yet. Unfortunately his fiancee can't file a claim with @icbc until she has the police report.

@patio11 @ByrneHobart I get this, but a lot of people dependent on social services for survival feel disenfranchised or otherwise regularly punished by an uncaring system and expecting those folks to have societal trust despite society showing that they actively don't care is asking a bit much.

@ByrneHobart A certain degree of mutual trust in the rules and in most people’s willingness to mind the rules is a necessary precondition for having nice things, and pervasively flouting the rules is advocacy for there being less nice things. I want to live in a society with nice things.

I used to wonder why I was so viscerally opposed to fare-jumping. Eventually realized it’s a minor crime that’s trivial to get away with—so the people who do it aren’t held back by either shame or getting shamed. Which is pretty socially corrosive!
Helen Andrews@herandrews

Update: Nearly 40 fare jumpers in five minutes this morning. I asked the Metro attendant if he cared about people stealing. He said, verbatim, “That’s not my job.”

The California grid faces another massive challenge this evening. CAISO kept the lights on last night as electricity demand surpassed levels last seen in the August 2020 blackouts. Load is forecast to test all-time records today through Thursday.

New Postmedia-bot talking points appear to be (i) healthcare system had collapsed before covid and (ii) investment in our healthcare system to patch it up again is “communism” Again, I think this is strategic…”it was already broken and only privatization will fix it”.
