Identical small engines in Brazil have used >E20 since the late 1970s and >E27 since 2015.
It has worked out so well and for so long that Paraguay went to E27.
Note India and Thailand are at E20 today.
Ethanol is at worst equal to but most often far better on rubbers, plastics, and metals than what gasoline and BTEX (benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, & xylene) are.
Ethanol is rated A/Excellent for rubber vs gasoline and BTEX which is rated D/poor to not recommended.
Gasoline is so harsh on rubber that Viton had to be invented.
Non-toxic ethanol was chosen to replace the disastrous MTBE as our octane booster and oxygenate. This was around the same time as we upped the amount of highly toxic and highly corrosive aromatic's like BTEX. Perhaps one might look there instead since many countries do fine with much higher ethanol blends.
Ethanol has been the active ingredient of non-toxic RV antifreeze since there have been RVs.
Ethanol would not have stood the test of time had it been more corrosive than the blood of Sigourney Weaver’s Alien.
