The development of AI is as fundamental as the creation of the microprocessor, the personal computer, the Internet, and the mobile phone. It will change the way people work, learn, travel, get health care, and communicate with each other. gatesnot.es/3FIamPU

In summary, we believe rapid progress is likely because of scaling laws - AI capabilities improve predictably as more data and computation are used, and data and computation are getting cheaper each year. anthropic.com/index/core-vie…

The capabilities of AI are widely misunderstood because they have been actively misrepresented by both those who want to sell it or drive investment in it, and those who fear it or underestimate it tcrn.ch/3RWgt7R

A key focus @ForerunnerVC for 2023 (and beyond): the traditional needs of non-traditional consumers, as core life fundamentals have become increasingly fragile and complicated. The Next Wave of Game-Changing Companies Will be Life-Changing Companies forerunnerventures.com/our-perspectiv…

Please stop focusing on learning from ultra-successful founders. Survivorship bias is acute among these folks & the outliers often are those making big risky bets that happen to pay off. And even if that isn’t the case, we usually learn the wrong lessons. oneusefulthing.substack.com/p/when-survivo…

Read how @laurakleinso nicely points out that getting folks to do the job that your users do is not the most effective approach to learning about users, their contexts, and their needs.linkedin.com/feed/update/ur…

I’d always thought of Doug Engelbart’s “mother of all demos” as an origin point for modern software interfaces. But writing this piece made it clear how much innovation went into creating the demo itself, including a key contribution from @stewartbrand hidden-heroes-ng.webflow.io/douglas-engelb…

No amount of research will make stakeholders as confident as following all of their biases. Sell stakeholders on the idea of *doing research* in the first place, or they will demand impossible bulletproof evidence for anything that doesn't align with their existing assumptions.

If your organization invests more than 15% of its user research in usability testing and product validation techniques, it's wasting its money. 80-90% of user research investment should be in understanding the problems users have. When you do this, it changes everything.

Steve Jobs famously said innovation is "saying no to 1000 things" before you say yes. For more than a decade, Apple has used Pablo Picasso's Bull to drive home the lesson. Here's a breakdown 🧵
