NEW: Five current and former senior European officials briefed on the call said Trump’s phone conversation with Denmark’s PM Mette Frederiksen about his intent to take over Greenland had gone “very badly,” the Financial Times reports.
“It was horrendous,” said one of the people. Another added: “He was very firm. It was a cold shower. Before, it was hard to take it seriously. But I do think it is serious, and potentially very dangerous.”
Thanks to Trump, our friends and allies can not trust the United States anymore. China and Russia couldn't be happier

@Eileen46Eileen @booeyofficial @MarinaPurkiss Because he backs his opinion with a lot of money. It should not be important but it is. And it is totally opposite to mine.
English

@booeyofficial @MarinaPurkiss But why is Elon Musk’s opinion important in the UK?
English

And just like that…
The bromance was over.
Elon Musk@elonmusk
The Reform Party needs a new leader. Farage doesn’t have what it takes.

@IrritableChris @Charlot66862571 @alexlawrencesw1 @aimssmithphotos @positive4uk @bphillipsonMP You think you would not pay customs duty and VAT if you bought a helicopter? You would pay 20% duty plus 20% VAT. And insurance premium tax on health insurance. Additional taxes on gambling companies too but I don't claim to know the details. You are just wrong. Simples.
English

@Charlot66862571 @alexlawrencesw1 @aimssmithphotos @positive4uk @bphillipsonMP Private healthcare isn't taxed. Neither is bingo or online gambling. Or indeed a helicopter. But there's vat on toilet roll. Your linking vat to education as a luxury doesn't stack up. What do you think would happen if vat were applied to private medical?
English

The real life consequences of @bphillipsonMP VAT on schools policy:
Buckinghamshire Council has raised concerns about new education tax rises by the Government. The recent introduction of a 20% VAT on independent school fees and the abolition of business rates relief by the Government has sparked significant concern about the potential impact on Buckinghamshire's education system.
At its full Council meeting, Members agreed to write to the Secretary of State for Education requesting that this policy be rethought given its impact on young people's wellbeing and attainment. They are also expecting a full impact assessment of the VAT policy.
Cllr Anita Cranmer, "Local education authorities are bracing for potential pressure on state school admissions when the new tax takes effect and makes independent schools unaffordable for many parents. This could lead to increased class sizes and limited access to preferred school sizes, posing a huge challenge for Buckinghamshire Council schools."
"We are also expecting that children with SEND but without an Education, Health and Care Plan or attending a special school chosen by their parents are expected to be particularly affected. The Government did not grant VAT exemptions for these groups."
"Communities are also likely to be losers as independent schools may be forced to reduce or eliminate bursaries for disadvantaged but talented young people, reducing access to their facilities."
"Every child in Buckinghamshire deserves the best education, whether in an independent school or mainstream. We are calling for an urgent reassessment of this Government policy so we can mitigate its adverse effects on Buckinghamshire's education system."

@David__Osland You have obviously researched this thoroughly. Tell us about passenger numbers between 1918 and privatisation (down down down) and since privatisation (up up up)

@Gasseous_Clay @stephenpollard President elect Trump is a convicted criminal
English

I'm very uncomfortable with Louise Haigh's resignation. The logic is that no one can be in front line politics who has ever been convicted of a criminal offence, even if spent.
I am about as tough as it gets on 'law and order' issues and prison etc. But this seems wrong to me and to undermine the notion of rehabilitation.
(I do get the strength of the hypocrisy of Starmer's 'law breakers can't be law makers' attack on Boris Johnson. which I suppose is an important angle here.)
English

@jmitch37045211 @CentreLeft_ The fact is that Starmer stayed in the flat for a month after his son finished his GCSEs. Beth Rigby did not twist facts. All she did was let Starmer off the hook.

@brianmoore666 @Howgozza At least with an ST you are guaranteed a seat. England First XV is scheme where I pay and just gets into ballot. Only ever got 1 decent ticket just after Sunday Times ran critical article. I know you are not at fault for this, but just want to say all sports chase money.
English

@Howgozza I said I didn't want to make this confrontational- well done.

What do fans think about his? Not a loaded question, criticising the club involved, I'd just like your views.

@brosswb @JacobLunn11 I used to have a physique like his. I ran out a lot of people like you who assumed I was unfit. I do not deny that losing weight might be a good idea, but everyone talking about it rather than encouraging him in his cricket will make things worse, not better. Please stop it.
English

@JacobLunn11 NO offense brother, you seem to be talented, but you should work on your fitness💪

@NOREEN802641251 @DrOwenEmmerson @NicolaTallis I have never met you Owen but you obviously make Nicola very happy. I am sure you will spoil her rotten on her birthday.

Wishing my dear, darling friend, @NicolaTallis, the happiest of birthdays. Not only is she the most brilliant and exciting historian, but she is the most magical friend. Love you lots and lots 💜

@katherineschof8 If anyone, male or female, wants to be called Dr or Professor that should be the end of the matter. I once had a letter addressed to Mr Rudd (Dr) and am still trying to work out the logic.

@ComradeRedJimmy @theAliceRoberts The Tories are to blame for everything. Even decisions of Labour Governments
English

The consequences of having a Tory government for so long. The manifestation of "there is no society" only the individual. They want to destroy any sense we are a fair and decent society. No, they would rather fund/subsidise private schools and have us all focus on shopping. #GeneralElectionN0W

Desperately sad news.
Museums are treasure houses of objects and knowledge, founts of inspiration for future generations, places of wonder - and research. Places that invite us to see ourselves in a deep, wide context.
Our society and culture is impoverished if we lose them.
Having spent many hours behind the scenes in this one, poring over skeletal collections at National Museum Wales, working with archaeologists there, my heart is riven by this sad news.

@DebTreister @PupBisto @JamesLucasIT If he exists, it is God who gives children cancer, God who creates droughts and floods, God who put the River Blindness parasite on earth, and God who has given my friend Margaret Alzheimers. @BBCPolitics Given the percentage of ex service personnel who end up sleeping rough, in prison, and/or with serious mental health issues, I fail to see how anyone can think it would bring "discipline" to young people.
