Heavy, emotional day in Gaza. The scale of destruction is beyond imagination, the human toll immense. Yet the resilience of the Palestinian people is just as clear. @UNDP is on the ground, assisting them and kickstarting early recovery. But we want and we need to do more.

Watch | On stage in Barcelona, Pep Guardiola wore a keffiyeh and opened with “Salam Alaykoum” as he spoke for the children of Gaza during the Act x Palestine charity event. Guardiola condemned the world’s abandonment of Palestinians, recalling images of children searching for parents buried under rubble, and stressed that solidarity must go beyond words to real action. All funds raised at the event are dedicated to grassroots and humanitarian projects in Palestine.

Most people hear “heat pump” and think of small air-source units at home. But Germany is building one of the world’s largest heat pumps in Mannheim: a 162 MW river-source system using heat from the Rhine. Big reminder that heat-pumps scale far beyond households — they can decarbonise whole cities.

Truly remarkable: Poland used to be a climate laggard. Today, wind and solar are increasingly replacing coal in the Polish electricity mix with almost 30% of all electricity generated to date this year from wind and solar. In 2000 coal provided 95% of Polish electricity. Today it is at 51%.

We often forget how far we have come: Today almost 3/4 of EU electricity generation is from non-fossil energy sources. It is not long ago that fossil fuels dominated the EU's electricity mix. This year their share is approaching 1/4 of EU electricity generation. Source is @ember_energy

Across the #WestBank, settler violence targeting the annual olive harvest has continued, with ongoing attacks on Palestinian farmers and lands. October 2025 is on track to be the most violent month since UNRWA began tracking settler violence in 2013. “The annual olive harvest is the primary livelihood for tens of thousands of Palestinians, with olive trees deeply rooted in Palestinian heritage and identity. Attacks on the olive harvest threaten the very way of life for many Palestinians and further deepen the coercive environment in the occupied West Bank. Families should be allowed unhindered access to their lands to harvest their olives in safe conditions,” says Roland Friedrich, Director of UNRWA Affairs for the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem.

The aid getting into #Gaza is a drop in the ocean of what’s urgently needed. All crossings need to open. Aid needs to be unrestricted. UNRWA has around 6,000 trucks worth of vital humanitarian supplies in Jordan and Egypt waiting to go in. Lift the ban on UNRWA aid.

Feedback loops and learning are often misunderstood or ignored. Batteries are a prime example: as batteries are scaled their costs have fallen amd as costs fall more batteries get deployed and so on. We have written about this earlier this year in a piece on system dynamics and feedback loops. scurveeconomics.org/wp-content/upl…
