As a proud Michigan State University law grad, I’m outraged by the MSU Board of Trustees’ blatant attempt to muzzle statewide elected officials with this illegal “loyalty” gag order. These trustees answer to Michigan voters, not some board majority hell-bent on suppressing dissent. Forcing them to stay silent on disagreements while threatening censure, lost reimbursements, event access, and even university-funded legal representation is a direct violation of the First Amendment and an abuse of power no court should tolerate. This rushed Sunday night meeting with minimal notice proves their disdain for transparency and the rule of law. Michigan families deserve real leadership that upholds free speech and accountability, not authoritarian tactics. Let’s make Michigan safe, normal, and responsible again! 🇺🇸 @realDonaldTrump @JDVance @MIGOP @MI_Republicans @Th_Midwesterner @stevegrubershow @MrJustinBarclay @gatewaypundit @Rescue_Michigan @HarmeetKDhillon @elonmusk @timlovesann @mifairelections @TruckerRandy @DonnieDetroit19 @MichStateYAF @MSUCR

It was an honor to host @ SenMcCormickPA at our Aurora manufacturing facility in Pittsburgh today! We are committed to strengthening Pennsylvania’s role as the global hub for autonomous vehicle technology. By combining Aurora’s innovation with a shared vision for American leadership in AI, we’re ensuring the future of transportation is built right here in the Commonwealth. Thank you, Senator, for your partnership and for championing PA’s tech-driven workforce!
Senator Dave McCormick@SenMcCormickPA

Today, I toured Aurora with Drew Bagnell in Pittsburgh, a company founded by CMU graduates that is leading the charge in autonomous trucking, creating 1,000 jobs and transforming logistics right here in PA. This is what the future looks like and it’s being built in the Strip District.

It’s been an exciting few months since we became the first company to deploy driverless trucks on public roads in the U.S. ICYMI our CEO @chris_urmson caught up with @EdLudlow at Sun Valley to discuss what it was like to be in the back of the truck on the first trip, our progress toward expansion, our partnership with @nvidia, and a lot more. I’ve wondered what the world thought on December 17, 1903, when one man flew 800 feet. While history now recognizes this moment as one that changed the arc of humanity, most at the time considered it with a collective shrug. Not even the hometown newspaper reported it, declaring the flights too short to be important. Fast forward to two weeks ago, when I watched from our Texas Command Center as the world’s first fully autonomous truck rolled out of a Texas terminal, traversed frontage roads, highways, and surface streets, and arrived at a Houston terminal. An hour later, and with a new load, it did it again. Then again. And again. And again. By day three, what had felt like magic now felt like business as usual. By week two, it was clear to me that the world had forever changed. With that change, Aurora became a new company; no longer an upstart in pursuit of one of the most difficult technological breakthroughs of the last 100 years, but a clear leader poised to transform an industry. With its strategy clear, our partnerships established, our product launched, and our leadership team built, Aurora has entered a new phase of growth, profitability, and impact. In the strongest position we’ve ever had. With this new chapter beginning, I’ve decided to hand the reins to the remarkable bench of leaders we’ve brought on over the years. These are people I trust. They’re people who have worked with me, Chris, and Drew for years. They don’t just understand the business, the technology, and the execution of its strategy; they’ve played an active role in their creation. As I told the Aurora team this week, this isn't the end of my relationship with the company or the mission. In one way or another, we'll always be connected. The next chapter of Aurora’s journey will be exhilarating, and I look forward to seeing it in the history books one day. Right next to the Wright Flyer’s first flight.

History is literally steering itself. On the first day of the Aurora Driver's driverless commercial operations, Chris rode in the backseat, soaking up the moment and reflected on the journey that led us here: aurora.tech/newsroom/auror…

We put in the early mornings, late nights, and hard work to get to this far – but this is just the starting line. Self-driving freight is on the way.

Today the University of Michigan is ending implementation of DEI. We are eliminating programs, eliminating affiliated staff and ending the DEI 2.0 strategy. Late last year we ended the use of diversity statements in faculty hiring. This is now expanded university wide and statements related to a person’s identity or commitment to DEI will no longer be solicited or considered in admissions, hiring, promotion, awards or reviews for faculty and staff. Savings from these programs will be used to support making Michigan more affordable for our students and families through expansion of the Go Blue Guarantee to family incomes of $125,000 or less and other student facing supports. We are eliminating bureaucratic overspending and making Michigan more accessible. I will continue to push for even greater financial support for talented students with financial need. The total cost of attendance at UM goes far beyond tuition when you consider the high costs of housing, transportation, food and other necessities. I will be working in the future to address these costs for our students who need the most help. Ending DEI programs will also allow us to better expand diversity of thought and free speech on our campus. The end of litmus test hiring and curtailment of speech stops now. People from all walks of life representing a variety of ideologies will be welcome at Michigan. As we move forward with creation of the Institute on Civil Discourse, I look forward to hosting a variety of perspectives on campus. Today’s announcement follows a number of policy and process changes that are making our campus safer and stronger as a place of learning and academic excellence. I’m honored to be a leader at this amazing institution.
